An elderly man in his 70s pointed a gun and shot a Fortuner driver in the eye.

In the darkness, Ma Thanh Toan stealthily approached the Fortuner car, slipped the gun barrel through the gap in the window, and aimed at the driver's head before pulling the trigger.

On October 11th, the Investigation Police Department of Tuyen Quang province announced that it had issued a decision to prosecute and detain Ma Thanh Toan (65 years old), residing in Kim Phu commune, Yen Son district, Tuyen Quang province, for the crime of "murder".

Previously, on September 25th, the Tuyen Quang Provincial Police received a report that in the Na Nghe bridge area, in Na La village, Son Phu commune, Na Hang district, Mr. Nguyen Cao Son (50 years old), residing in Coc Leu ward, Lao Cai city, died due to a mobile phone explosion.

However, through the investigation and witness interviews, the police discovered several irregularities. The injuries that caused the victim's death, particularly around the left eye, looked more like gunshot wounds than phone explosions.

Through investigative measures, law enforcement identified the suspect and executed an arrest warrant for Ma Van Toan. When arrested, Toan was found to be carrying four bullets and one homemade shell casing. He confessed to having a homemade gun hidden at a friend's house.

During an emergency search of Toan's house, the police seized several documents and a "Receipt for Deposit for Goods Purchase," a safe, and 176 million VND. All the money, the safe, and the receipt were linked to a person named Cao Thi Luyen (from Lao Cai).

At the investigative agency, Ma Thanh Toan confessed that he promised to help Ms. Luyen and her partner buy a color-changing bronze gourd for 15 billion VND from two sworn brothers of Toan's, who live in Thai Nguyen province and currently reside in a cave in Son Phu commune (Na Hang).

Promising to take Ms. Luyen to see the gourd, Toan demanded a deposit of 500 million VND. On August 31st, Ms. Luyen agreed to pay the deposit, and Toan committed to taking her to the transaction on September 12th; if it failed, Toan would compensate her with an additional 250 million VND.

Upon receiving the money, Toan contacted his sworn brothers to arrange for Ms. Luyen's group to inspect the goods, but the two men kept postponing and refusing the transaction. By then, Toan had almost spent all of Ms. Luyen's deposit, not to mention the 250 million dong penalty as promised.

Desperate, Toan conceived the idea of ​​using a homemade gun to threaten Luyen's group, hoping they would be too scared to watch the color-changing gourd. On the evening of September 25th, Toan arranged to meet Luyen at the Na Nghe bridge area.

At around 7 PM, upon seeing the car driven by Mr. Nguyen Cao Son, Toan hid in a secluded spot and lied to Ms. Luyen, claiming she had a leg injury and was at the shack. Without any suspicion, Ms. Luyen and several others walked up to Toan's shack, while Mr. Son and the others remained in the car.

It was drizzling at the time, so Mr. Son pulled over to the side of the road, rolled down the window for ventilation, and took out his mobile phone to play games. Taking advantage of the darkness, Toan crept out, approached the car, and inserted the gun barrel through the gap next to the driver's seat, aiming directly at Mr. Son's head and pulling the trigger.

Because it was a homemade gun, the explosion was very quiet. Sitting in the back, they smelled burning and saw Son collapse. The people with him thought it was due to the phone exploding, so they called Luyen's group to come back and report to the police.

As for Ma Thanh Toan, after committing the crime, he fled with the gun and then left it at a friend's shack, pretending that nothing had happened.
