In the dark, Ma Thanh Toan sneaked up to the Fortuner car, slipped the gun barrel through the window, aimed at the driver's head and pulled the trigger.

On October 11, the Investigation Police Agency of Tuyen Quang Province Police announced that the unit had issued a decision to prosecute and detain Ma Thanh Toan (65 years old), residing in Kim Phu Commune, Yen Son District, Tuyen Quang Province, for the act of "Murder".

Previously, on September 25, Tuyen Quang Provincial Police received a report that in the Na Nghe bridge area, Na La village, Son Phu commune, Na Hang district, Mr. Nguyen Cao Son (50 years old), residing in Coc Leu ward, Lao Cai city, died due to... a cell phone explosion.

However, through the investigation and witness statements, the police discovered many abnormalities. The injury that caused the victim’s death in the left eye area was more like a gunshot than an exploding phone.

Using professional measures, the authorities identified the suspect and executed an arrest warrant for Ma Van Toan. When arrested, Toan was found to have hidden 4 bullets and 1 homemade bullet casing on his person. The suspect confessed to having hidden a homemade gun at an acquaintance’s house.

During an emergency search of Toan’s house, the police seized a number of documents and a “Deposit receipt for the purchase of goods”, a safe and 176 million VND. All the money, the safe and the receipt were related to one person, Cao Thi Luyen (from Lao Cai).

At the investigation agency, Ma Thanh Toan confessed that he promised to help Ms. Luyen and her partner buy a color-changing bronze gourd for 15 billion VND from two sworn brothers of Toan who live in Thai Nguyen province and currently reside in a cave in Son Phu commune (Na Hang).

Promising to take Ms. Luyen to see the gourd, Toan asked for a deposit of 500 million VND. On August 31, Ms. Luyen agreed to deposit and Toan promised to take her to the transaction on September 12; if it failed, Toan would compensate her with an additional 250 million VND.

Upon receiving the money, Toan contacted his sworn brothers to let Ms. Luyen's group see the goods, but these two delayed and refused to do the transaction. That was also the time when Toan had spent almost all of Ms. Luyen's deposit, not to mention the 250 million VND fine as promised.

Desperate, Toan came up with the idea of ​​using a homemade gun to threaten Luyen's group, so that these people would be afraid to see the color-changing gourd. On the evening of September 25, Toan asked Luyen to come to the Na Nghe bridge area.

At around 7pm, a car driven by Nguyen Cao Son was seen; Toan hid in a hidden place and lied to Luyen that he had a sore leg and was in the shed. Without any suspicion, Luyen and some people walked to Toan's shed; while Son and the others stayed in the car.

At this time it was drizzling lightly, Mr. Son parked the car on the side of the road, rolled down the window to get some fresh air and took out his cell phone to play video games. Taking advantage of the darkness, Toan crawled out, approached the car and inserted the gun barrel through the gap in the driver's seat, aimed straight at Mr. Son's head and pulled the trigger.

Because the gun was homemade, the explosion was very small. Sitting behind, smelling the burning smell and seeing Mr. Son collapse, the people who were with him thought it was a phone explosion, so they called Ms. Luyen's group to come back and report to the police.

As for Ma Thanh Toan, after committing the crime, he took the gun and ran away, then left it at the shack of an acquaintance, pretending not to know what happened.
