Vietnamese female players asked to contribute money to buy TVs for the coaching staff

Because the number of TVs from the sponsor was not enough for the whole team, the Vietnamese female players were suggested to use their own money to buy more TVs to "give" to the coaching staff.

After winning the 29th SEA Games gold medal, the Vietnamese women's football team received 20 televisions from a sponsor for 20 players (there were no seats for the 9 members of the coaching staff and doctors). Each television is worth 16 million VND. Recently, there was information that coach Mai Duc Chung suggested that each player contribute 8 million VND to buy nine more televisions to give to the members of the coaching staff and doctors - who also contributed significantly to the team's achievements.

Upon hearing this information, most of the female players disagreed. “We have no obligation to buy more TVs to give to anyone. What we are given is ours to enjoy. Now asking us to contribute money to buy more TVs is no different than us buying TVs for ourselves,” one player said indignantly.

In response to the above information, head coach Mai Duc Chung denied that he had suggested buying more televisions. “That never happened. In the past, I have been focusing on the men’s team so I did not know that the players had pooled money to buy televisions. Perhaps this was something the players discussed among themselves,” he said.

Head of the women's football team - Duong Vu Lam was also upset: "Mr. Chung and I have recently focused on work with the men's team so we were completely unaware of this, and I know for sure that Mr. Chung was not the one who made the above proposal. Perhaps it was just one of the members who came up with that idea."

Mr. Lam also added that the current female players receive low remuneration, they deserve more bonuses and not have to spend their own money to buy more televisions for the coaching staff. “This proposal is extremely unreasonable,” Mr. Lam emphasized.

With the SEA Games gold medal in Malaysia, the female players were also awarded nearly 4 billion VND from VFF and sponsors.
