Tan Ky district officials share experiences in mass mobilization

Roll up your sleeves and get down to work with the farmers

We followed Mr. Vu Quoc Dung - Deputy Secretary of the Party Cell of Tan Ky District Plant Protection Station to visit the rice fields in Thanh Phuc hamlet, Tan An commune.

This is a model of improved rice intensification (SRI). Compared to the control rice field, this model has good growth and development of rice plants, healthy plants, with 12 to 25 flowers per clump. Planting according to the new improved method reduces the amount of seeds, fertilizers, and labor costs.

Starting from only 0.1 ha of rice under the new model in the first crop, by the second crop it had increased to 4.3 ha, and to date, the rice production area under the SRI model has been expanded to 130 ha in Tan An and Nghia Thai communes. Ms. Tran Thi Nga, Thanh Phuc hamlet, was one of the first households to participate, excitedly sharing: “At first, when we introduced the new rice variety, we were still very hesitant, but the results were surprising. The rice plants were full of grains. In the coming time, we will expand this rice variety into mass cultivation, increasing the economic value for our family”.

To get to where we are today is a long process of perseverance, skillful mobilization, and persuasion of people to gradually abandon traditional farming practices and believe in the application of science and technology, bringing higher productivity and rice output of cadres, party members, and employees of the district Plant Protection Station because in the early days, when building this new model, people did not agree much because they were afraid of risks and losing their crops.

Therefore, in order for households in the hamlet to participate in the model, each cadre and party member of the District Plant Protection Station always determines the motto of focusing on the grassroots, regularly "going to every alley, knocking on every door", "holding hands and showing how to do things" to help people change their agricultural production habits. Besides, the fastest "solution" to the problem of mobilization is to coordinate with reputable people, do a good job of contacting, listening, and dialogue with people, thereby grasping "quickly, accurately, and sufficiently" the thoughts and aspirations of the people.

“In the spring crop of 2017, the weather was complicated, with many cold spells, but we still “rolled up our sleeves” and went to the fields with the people to take care of the rice, so the rice grew well and tillered well. If we want people to support us, the officials must talk and do, make people understand and make them believe,” Mr. Dung shared.

Associated with people's interests

The two hamlets of Van Xuan and Van Long, Giai Xuan commune, have an area of ​​117.58 hectares of 329 production households, but there are up to 1,016 plots, an average of 3 plots per household, even 7 plots of many fields, so people cultivate fragmentedly, encounter many difficulties in planting and caring, and there are almost no internal roads. Faced with that situation, the Party Committee of Giai Xuan commune issued a specialized Resolution "Building a concentrated, contiguous, contiguous sugarcane growing area" to "consolidate fields, exchange plots", accumulate land to develop large-scale production in agriculture, which was highly approved by cadres, party members and people of the two hamlets.

However, when implementing, there were many obstacles, as comrade Nguyen Duy Viet - Secretary of the Van Long hamlet Party Cell frankly admitted: "For the people, land is an invaluable asset. When implementing land consolidation, many people compared bad land, good land, nearby fields, far fields, so they were not satisfied". Therefore, cadres and party members from the commune to the hamlet joined in the campaign synchronously and skillfully with the motto "slow and steady wins the race". All tasks such as redistributing plots and numbering on land maps were made public and transparent, each hamlet had 4 people directly participating in supervision and measurement.

After a year of persistent implementation, the land consolidation in Van Long hamlet, Van Xuan has now been completed, resulting in only 329 plots remaining, from 12 fields now reduced to 4 areas. Moreover, through land consolidation, 16 internal traffic routes have been arranged, renovated and renewed to serve production. Secretary of Van Long hamlet Party cell Nguyen Duy Viet shared. "In the area, 70% of households have completely abandoned the manual method of growing sugarcane, instead growing industrial sugarcane, increasing productivity."

In the 2017-2018 pressing season, Giai Xuan has a concentrated sugarcane growing model, promising a bumper crop with a yield of 85 tons/ha. Standing Deputy Secretary of the Giai Xuan Commune Party Committee Dang Ngoc Thinh affirmed: "Mass mobilization work in the DDDT is an important step, not only in leading and implementing political tasks, but also contributing to changing the face of rural agriculture, helping people have a more fulfilling life".
