President Tran Dai Quang visits and works with the Ministry of National Defense

On the morning of October 17, President Tran Dai Quang visited and worked with the Ministry of National Defense at the Mieu Mon Training Center, Hanoi.

Also attending the meeting were representatives of central departments, ministries and branches, comrades of the Central Military Commission Standing Committee, the head of the Ministry of National Defense, and representatives of functional agencies of the Ministry of National Defense.

On behalf of the leadership of the Ministry of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Minister of National Defense reported on the results of the implementation of military and defense tasks in 2017 and said that, with the motto of innovation, closely following the grassroots, the entire army regularly grasps the situation, does a good job of advising the Party, State, Party committees and local authorities on military and defense tasks; always proactively coordinates with the Police and other forces to promptly handle situations, avoids surprises, and is truly the core force in protecting the sovereignty, territorial integrity, border security, airspace and sea and islands of the Fatherland.

At the same time, the army is the main force in participating in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, rescue, mine clearance, overcoming the consequences of war; effectively participating in building local political bases and gratitude activities; performing well in defense diplomacy; the leadership capacity, fighting strength of Party committees and organizations at all levels and the quality of cadres and Party members continue to be improved. From there, it is always ready to receive and complete assigned tasks, firmly protecting the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Speaking at the meeting, President Tran Dai Quang said that the current situation in the world and the region is complicated and difficult to predict; armed conflicts, ethnic and religious conflicts, sovereignty and territorial disputes are taking place fiercely. In that context, the military and defense tasks are very heavy, requiring the Vietnam People's Army to always uphold vigilance, constantly improve overall quality and combat strength, worthy of being a loyal and trustworthy political and combat force of the Party, State and people.

The President requested that in the coming time, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense continue to lead, direct, thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the Central Committee's resolutions and the goals and tasks set out in the Resolution of the 10th Party Congress of the Army.

At the same time, regularly grasp the situation, promptly advise the Party and State on socio-economic development associated with national defense and security. Promote the building of a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and gradually modern Vietnam People's Army; proactively forecast and correctly assess the situation, effectively perform the role of advising the Party and State on military, defense, and security strategies; thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the strategy to protect the Fatherland, avoiding being passive or surprised in any situation.

The President also requested that the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense continue to pay attention to and do a good job of propaganda so that the people of the whole country and the armed forces deeply understand the attention of the Party, the State and the people to the Army. Strengthen Party building and rectification, combat ideological, moral and lifestyle degradation, "self-evolution" and "self-transformation" in the Party Committee of the Army; continue to effectively implement Directive 05 of the Politburo on promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle; closely coordinate with the People's Public Security and relevant forces to resolutely fight to defeat all sabotage plots of hostile forces, maintain political security, social order and safety, ensure absolute security and safety for important political events and major holidays of the country, especially the activities of the APEC Summit 2017 held in Vietnam./.
