The brave spirit of Vietnamese women

(Baonghean.vn) - Throughout the history of building and defending the country, there have been many generations and many shining examples of women in terms of loyalty to the Fatherland, sacrifice, and bravery.

The legends of outstanding women in Vietnamese history such as Hai Ba Trung, Ba Trieu and many other women who were steadfast in their patriotism and indomitable spirit in the fight against foreign invaders have been engraved in the hearts of every Vietnamese person.

Former General Secretary Le Duan once said, "There is no place in the world where women are like in Vietnam, not just now, but also a thousand years ago. There has never been a country where the first builder and the first person to bring independence to the state was a woman."

During the resistance war against the US to save the country, the name Nguyen Thi Dinh was known to international friends not only because she was the leader of the long-haired army, contributing greatly to the victory of the Dong Khoi movement throughout the South, but also because she was admired as the first female general of the Vietnam People's Army, the one who created the three-pronged strategy of military, political, and enemy propaganda in combat, and was also a symbol of a heroic woman in the Ho Chi Minh era.

At the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Women's Union in October 1966, President Ho Chi Minh also said, "The heroic South has a political struggle army consisting of tens of thousands of soldiers who are all women. They are very intelligent and brave, they make the enemy fear and call them the long-haired army. The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Liberation Army is Ms. Nguyen Thi Dinh. In the whole world, only our country has such a female general. It is truly glorious for the South, for our whole nation."

No matter where, in what position, at what time, women always play a great role, ready to contribute and sacrifice when the Fatherland needs. Therefore, in the war against imperialism, along with the long-haired army in the South, along the Truong Son range, there was also a special female force called "Thanh Nien Van Phong", they were girls in their sixteens and twenties who, because of the call of the Fatherland, devoted their youth to their homeland, they themselves contributed to writing the golden pages of history of the nation in the 20th century.

Road-clearing and carrying loads were heavy jobs, but on the legendary transport route, the image of women hammering and carrying rocks and ammunition boxes on their shoulders became very familiar. Cutting mountains, crossing rivers, going through forests, and filling holes were the daily tasks of the female youth volunteers.

The Vietnamese people had to endure the fierce pain of war to protect the independence and unity of the country. During those fierce years, many generations rushed to the battlefield to fight and fell. The Fatherland not only bows in gratitude to the brothers and sisters, but also to the mothers in the rear, who suppressed their personal feelings to encourage their husbands and children to sacrifice themselves for the greater cause.

Vietnamese Heroic Mother Nguyen Thi Thu had 9 sons, 1 son-in-law, and 2 grandchildren who sacrificed their lives in the nation's resistance war against French colonialism and American imperialism.

Along with the glory are the losses, the hard-to-heal heart wounds that follow the mothers throughout their lives – the heroic Vietnamese Mothers, the great women of the nation, they are symbols of strength, love for the country and great sacrifice. For the sake of the Fatherland, mothers had to accept sacrifices, but there is no pain greater than the pain of losing a father, no pain greater than the pain of losing a husband, and there is no comparison to the despair when the child you gave birth to is forever separated from you.

The eight golden words “Heroic, Indomitable, Loyal, and Responsible” that President Ho Chi Minh bestowed on women have become the title and common pride of Vietnamese women. This is also the core quality of Vietnamese women that has been deeply engraved in the pride of generations of Vietnamese people.

Leveling difficulties, overcoming challenges, and making constant efforts, Vietnamese women are now making a huge contribution to the country's development. Vietnamese women are present and affirming their position in all fields such as participating in state management, initiatives in the fields of science and technology, social work, poverty reduction, and prevention of social evils. In particular, there are more and more women holding important positions in the political system from the central to local levels.
