1. National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan officially visits Kazakhstan

On the afternoon of October 16 (local time), a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly led by National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan arrived in the capital Astana, beginning an official visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Welcoming National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly were Vietnamese Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan Doan Thi Xuan Hien, Vice Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bojko Vladimir Karpovich, and officials of the Vietnamese Embassy in Kazakhstan. This is the first time the Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly has officially visited the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The visit is of great significance, being the highest-level delegation exchange between the two countries in 2017, aiming to continue consolidating and further strengthening the traditional friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Kazakhstan in general, and the cooperation between our National Assembly and the Parliament of Kazakhstan in particular...

2. Opening Ceremony of Vietnam Women's Awards and Creative Women's Day 2017

The 2017 Vietnamese Women's Awards and Creative Women's Day ceremony on the occasion of the Vietnamese Women's Day and the 87th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women's Union was solemnly held on the afternoon of October 17 at the Center for Women and Development, 20 Thuy Khue, Hanoi.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue praised the collectives and individuals who were awarded the 2017 Vietnamese Women's Award. The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that with their achievements, initiatives and accomplishments in studying, researching and working, they have brought, are bringing and will bring great benefits to the development of the community and the country, contributing to promoting equality and progress for Vietnamese women in general. They are the examples of modern Vietnamese women who are "Confident - Self-respecting - Loyal - Responsible".

3. The Party Central Committee requires the disclosure of leaders' assets.

For the first time, the Secretariat has specific instructions on publicizing asset and income declarations of leaders and managers for people to monitor.

The Central Party Secretariat has just issued a framework guideline for implementation by Party committees and organizations directly under the Central Committee. According to the guideline, many contents will have to be made public for people to know and monitor.

One of the contents required to be made public is the "commitments to practice and maintain the moral qualities and lifestyle of cadres and party members" and "declarations of assets and income of leaders".

Party committees and organizations must also publicize audit and inspection conclusions; results of handling complaints and denunciations; results of handling negative acts; activities and results of investigations, prosecutions, and trials (except for cases and matters that must be kept secret according to the provisions of law)...

The Secretariat also requested to publicize 27 manifestations of degradation in political ideology, morality, lifestyle, "self-evolution", "self-transformation"; 19 regulations that party members are not allowed to do; regulations of the Politburo and Secretariat of the 11th and 12th terms on the responsibility of setting an example for cadres and party members, especially key leaders at all levels...

4. Former National Assembly delegate Thu Nga sentenced to life in prison

On the afternoon of October 16, after 2 weeks of trial and lengthy deliberation, the Hanoi People's Court sentenced defendant Chau Thi Thu Nga (former National Assembly delegate, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Housing Group) to life in prison for the crime of Fraudulent appropriation of property.

The 10 defendants were allowed to sit while the verdict was read, but had to stand to hear the sentence.

Previously, the representative of the People's Procuracy had requested the People's Court to sentence defendant Chau Thi Thu Nga to life in prison. According to the People's Procuracy, defendant Chau Thi Thu Nga was the mastermind, directing other defendants to commit the crime, and was the user and beneficiary of the entire exceptionally large sum of nearly 350 billion VND.

"The nature of the case is particularly serious. The defendants used money for illegal purposes such as "running projects", buying cars... causing public outrage. Therefore, the panel of judges needs to apply strict punishment to serve as a deterrent" - the indictment stated at the Hanoi People's Court.

5. Mr. Xuan Anh ceased to hold the position of Secretary of the Da Nang Military Party Committee.

On the afternoon of October 18, the Standing Committee of the Da Nang City Party Committee announced the decision to appoint an additional Secretary of the City Military Party Committee for the 2015-2020 term.

Accordingly, the new Secretary of the City Party Committee, Truong Quang Nghia, was appointed to hold the position of Secretary of the City Military Party Committee for the 2015-2020 term, replacing Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh.

At the announcement ceremony, Mr. Truong Quang Nghia requested the City Military Command to closely coordinate with other forces, be ready to handle situations, and ensure security for the APEC 2017 Summit Week.

Previously, Party Central Committee member and Minister of Transport Truong Quang Nghia was assigned by the Politburo to hold the position of Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee to replace Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, who was disciplined and dismissed from office.

Currently, Mr. Xuan Anh also holds an important position as Chairman of the People's Council of Da Nang City. The Standing Committee of the People's Council of the City will meet to consider Mr. Xuan Anh's position.

6. The suspect who masterminded the car burning and killing of the director is the victim's daughter.

On the afternoon of October 17, Major General Ho Sy Tien - Director of the Criminal Police Department (C45), Ministry of Public Security - confirmed that he had arrested a number of suspects related to the car arson case that left one person dead and two injured.

Tuoi Tre's source said that some subjects identified as being involved in this particularly serious case split up in different directions to escape, however most of the subjects were discovered and arrested.

Initially, the investigation agency determined that due to family conflicts, Tran Kieu Trang (daughter of Mr. Tran Van Ri) hired someone to carry out the incident.

As of 5:05 p.m. on October 17, detectives and investigators from the Criminal Police Department, Ministry of Public Security, are still working with about 4-5 related subjects. Currently, a number of other related subjects are being transferred from some Western provinces to the city for investigation. A number of related people, who show signs of concealing crimes, are also being invited to work at the headquarters of the Ministry of Public Security.

7. Expelling the Party Secretary of Dong Tam commune

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan talked with National Assembly members Duong Trung Quoc and Luu Binh Nhuong at the Dong Tam Commune People's Committee hall on the morning of April 22 while waiting for the Chairman of Hanoi City to come and have a dialogue with the people.

On the morning of October 21, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, Party Secretary and Chairwoman of the People's Council of Dong Tam commune (My Duc district, Hanoi) confirmed the above information.

Ms. Lan said that the conclusion of the inspection by the My Duc District Party Committee on the Party Executive Committee of Dong Tam commune for the 2015-2020 term due to the incident in Hoanh village (Dong Tam commune) on April 15-17, 2017 was just announced on October 19.

"The Standing Committee of the Commune Party Committee was disciplined, in addition to two comrades, the Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Council and Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Council," said Ms. Lan.

At this conclusion, My Duc District Party Committee decided to discipline Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, Party Secretary, Chairwoman of the Commune People's Council, by expelling her from the Party./.
