The three schools mentioned above include: Chau Hoan Commune Kindergarten, Primary School and Secondary School. The landslide has encroached about 10m into the school grounds.
Faced with the increasingly serious risk of subsidence, local authorities have mobilized parents and students to build temporary embankments using sacks of soil, sand, and bamboo stakes. However, this is only a temporary solution.

It is known that not only the back of the school has subsided, but when it rains heavily, the front gate of the school is often flooded with rocks and soil from the mountains into the yard and classrooms. In the flood of September 2016, all three schools were flooded, and many teaching and learning equipment were damaged.
Learning from the flood of last year, in 2017, when heavy rain was forecast, 3 schools temporarily closed their schools, mobilized staff, teachers, and parents to move teaching materials, and raised books and documents to safe places.
Teacher Vi Thi Xuan - Principal of Chau Hoan Kindergarten said: "Every time there is a forecast of rain and floods, teachers have a very hard time. Teachers are mostly female, but every time there is a flood, they have to send someone to stay on duty. Currently, the subsidence behind the school has only been resolved by mobilizing parents to help build a barrier with bamboo, reeds, and sandbags, so I'm afraid it won't last long..."
Faced with the risk of landslides threatening schools in the area, the People's Committee of Chau Hoan commune has sent a report to the People's Committee of Quy Chau district requesting a plan to allocate funds to build a solid embankment.

Mr. Lu Van Duc - Chairman of Chau Hoan Commune People's Committee said: Flash floods and flash floods seriously affect the lives, activities and production of people in the commune every year. In particular, 3 schools are currently seriously threatened by the erosion of Nam Cam stream; it can be said that the construction can be swept away at any time. The local government has mobilized people to drive stakes, build embankments with bamboo and rattan, and fill the eroded areas with soil and rocks, but this is only a temporary solution.
Regarding the risk of landslides at 3 schools in Chau Hoan commune, on October 24, more than 150 people from 5 villages: Na Ba, Na Xa, Na Cong, Mo Pom, Pong Canh, and teachers from Chau Hoan Primary School gathered to drive piles, fill soil, and build embankments to prevent landslides along Nam Cam stream. Nearly 700 sandbags, gravel, 150 bamboo stakes and other materials were mobilized to reinforce the most vulnerable 30m out of a total of 90m of landslides along the stream, with an embankment height of 4.5m and width of 2m. |
