Preparing China for a new era, President Xi Jinping is leading a political education reform in more than 280,000 primary and secondary schools across the country.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Education will revise textbooks, adding to the curriculum content about the Communist Party as well as stories about heroes fighting against invaders.

New textbooks will include lessons on 40 revolutionary heroes. Second graders will hear about a 13-year-old cowherd who sacrificed himself to protect Communist cadres from Japanese troops in 1942. Lessons on China’s territorial sovereignty will also be integrated into subjects such as history, ethics and language.

At the same time, students will learn new subjects.Traditional Chinese medicine and Confucianism will be taught to raise awareness of the achievements of Chinese civilization. In addition, schools will cut down on the number of classes on famous writers such as Lu Xun, whose works criticize the bad habits of the Chinese people.

In addition to strengthening patriotism education for the younger generation, Xi Jinping wants to highlight the Communist Party's role in returning China to its position as a world power.

Mr Xi has praised the “Red Army” schools as a model that should be replicated across the country. A school in northwestern China is named after Mr Xi’s father, a veteran revolutionary. There have been more than231 schools following this model were established across the country.

During an ethics class on perseverance, teacher Xie said, "At this time, other countries are going through war and people in Africa are starving. Don't forget the sacrifices of the Red Army."

Party content is not only included in history and language classes but also in science subjects such as mathematics. For example, students are asked to calculate the length of the Red Army's retreat on the Long March.

Several times a week, more than 1,400 students line up neatly on the cement schoolyard and sing in unison about the “Chinese Dream,” a concept championed by Xi Jinping in 2013 that describes “theThe great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is China's greatest dream"./.
