A digital greenhouse has just appeared in Tokyo, using psychedelic lighting and a “plant orchestra”.

This digital vegetable garden, called Digital Vegetables, is a product of studio Party, designed to encourage visitors to touch, smell and hear the sounds emitted by the plants growing within.

The frame of this greenhouse is equipped with LED lights. Seven varieties of vegetables are grown inside and when visitors enter, they trigger a series of lights and sounds.

While the LED lighting is digitally programmed, inspired by the movement inside the earth, the sound effects were created by artist Res Kunimoto, who collected data from a mixture of seeds rubbing and colliding with leaves to simulate the sound of musical instruments.

“The tomato is the violin, the carrot is the trumpet, the radish is the flute, the sweet potato is the piano, and the pumpkin is the clarinet,” Kunimoto said.

This digital vegetable garden is on display until November 5. Visitors are encouraged to visit at night to fully experience the garden's light and sound effects.
