Automatic train ticket checking, ending the need to see off passengers at the station

Vietnam Railways Corporation will operate an automatic ticket checking system at some major stations. The practice of seeing off relatives right on the platform or under the train, as has been the case for a long time, will also be stopped.

In November 2017, Vietnam Railways Corporation will install and test automatic ticket checking equipment at some key passenger stations such as: Hanoi, Da Nang, Saigon.

Specifically, at Hanoi station, 6 lanes with 10 automatic ticket gates will be installed; at Da Nang station, 2 lanes with 3 automatic ticket gates will be installed; at Saigon station, 3 lanes with 5 automatic ticket gates will be installed.

Vietnam Railways will put into operation an automatic ticket checking system - similar to the entrance gate of a metro station.

Regarding the process, first, the train passenger scans the ticket code on paper or on the phone screen into the ticket gate reader. The ticket gate sends the decoded information from the QRCode to the railway's verification software to check its validity.

If the ticket is valid, the gate will automatically open the latch for a person to pass. If the ticket is invalid, the gate will not open and the passenger will be notified of the status via LED and sound. In case the ticket is valid but the automatic ticket control gate does not open; the railway staff will directly use the provided Code to force the gate open when the system fails or has a problem.

A valid ticket is a ticket that has been sold on the system, on the correct train, departure date, departure station, and ticket gate as specified by the station. Invalid tickets include the following specific cases: no information on the electronic ticketing system; Tickets have been on the train or entered or exited the station...

At the automatic ticket gates, Vietnam Railways Corporation will arrange staff on duty to support and guide passengers when using automatic ticket checking and assist passengers who are elderly, disabled, pregnant women who need to carry luggage, push wheelchairs within the station...

Along with the installation of automatic ticket checking equipment at 3 key passenger stations, Vietnam Railways Corporation also organizes the control of passenger tickets at the entrances and exits of the following stations: Lao Cai, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, Vinh, Dong Hoi, Hue, Nha Trang, Dieu Tri; at the same time, the regulation on controlling tickets on the platform and at the door of the passenger cars boarding the train is abolished. In case of detecting or suspecting that someone is boarding the train without a ticket or using an invalid boarding pass, the staff of the Working Group on the train will be organized to check and control the tickets again.

People picking up and seeing off train passengers are arranged to wait in waiting areas, station lobbies, and outside the train passenger ticket control gate.
