Afsheen Qumbar is unable to walk or do normal activities. The girl from Mithi, Sindh province, southern Pakistan, has to rely on others to help her eat and go to the toilet, according to Mirror.

His father, Allah Jurio, 55, and mother, Jameeelan, 50, said they had taken him to many doctors but they all said there was no cure.

"I felt so hopeless seeing my child in such pain. No doctor could diagnose his condition. They advised us to take him to a big hospital in Karachi, the capital of Sindh province, but we had no money or resources to treat him there."

Afsheen was born normally like her 6 siblings. Her life changed at 8 months old.

"When she was eight months old, she fell to the ground while playing outside the house and injured her neck. We did not take her to the hospital because we had no money, but took her to the village shaman, but her condition did not improve," said Mrs. Jameeelan.

"As she grew older, her illness became more severe. She could not hold her head straight and often complained of neck pain. She could not do anything by herself and had to ask for help. She just sat in a corner and occasionally played with her siblings."

Jameelan and Jurio are both farmers and have no regular jobs. Their eldest son, Mohmad Yaqoob, 25, works in a private shop and earns $260 a month, which he sends home to support the family.

"We always take her with us wherever we go like she's a baby, but now she's nine years old, how will we take her with us when she grows up?" the poor mother worried.

Her unusual illness made it so that no one dared to play with her. Children were afraid, and adults thought she was sick because of a sin. She was not allowed to go to school, and her only friends were her siblings.

"People spoke ill of my daughter and laughed at her, which hurt us very much. We could not bear the attitude and discrimination of the villagers. We wanted to send our daughter to school, but no one would accept her."

Dr Dilip Kumar, who runs a private hospital in Mithi, examined Afsheen and said she "might have a rare muscular disorder or spinal deformity, but only a complete examination can determine the cause".

"We don't have enough facilities in Mithi, so I asked her parents to take her to Karachi where the surgery can be performed."

Afsheen's parents are desperately begging the government for help.

"If the government helps, my daughter can have a normal life. I have a lot of hopes and dreams for Afsheen. I want her to go to school, play with other children. I want her to live a normal life and hope that one day this wish will come true," Mr. Jurio said.
