A case of suspected use of anesthetics for "hypnosis" just took place in Xuan Dinh ward (Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi), causing the victim to hand over 30 million VND to the scammers.

Ms. Tran KN (witness of the incident) said that at around 9:00 a.m. on October 26, 2017, a woman in her 30s, not wearing a mask, riding a Honda AirBlade motorbike came to buy goods at store number 91, lane 207, Xuan Dinh ward, Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi. At that time, the store owner, Ms. Nguyen H., was sitting there selling.

“First, this person went to the store, picked up a few towels there to ask and then bought some small items. Then, she took a towel out of her pocket and asked H. if the store had that type of towel, if needed, she would buy it wholesale. After that, this person left. About 5 minutes later, she returned to the store, asked for H.'s phone number but did not receive a call,” Ms. N. shared information about the incident.

About 15 minutes later, two people (1 male, 1 female) wearing helmets and covering their faces came to the above mentioned store on a motorbike and said something to Ms. H.

“Then H. drove his motorbike, took the woman home, opened the cupboard and took out a stack of 30 million VND. While H. drove the woman away, the man followed her on his AirBlade. After that, all three returned to the store, and here, H. handed over the 30 million VND deposit to the other two. They left behind a large black plastic bag containing white towels. That’s why we didn’t suspect anything at first, because we thought it was a normal transaction,” Ms. N. added.

After that, according to Ms. N., the victim H. was in a state of confusion, and did not respond to anyone calling or asking. Only when H.'s husband came to the store and shouted questions did Ms. H. wake up and realize that 30 million VND had been lost.

“H. told us that after looking at the scarf, she felt very strange, like she lost consciousness, didn't know anything, but could still hear what people said. She just didn't understand why she acted on what people said like that,” Ms. N. expressed.

It is worth mentioning that in this area alone, the people suspected of using anesthetics to "hypnotize" and scam had "knocked on the doors" of two other stores before, "but were unsuccessful, because the people approached were suspicious and did not talk," according to Ms. N.

It is known that Ms. H.'s two young children are currently sick and hospitalized, so her family has not yet reported to the police, even though they have prepared enough information to be ready to provide.

Cameras of surrounding households also recorded images of the suspects involved in the above mentioned drug fraud.
