Deputy Director prosecuted for receiving money to 'fix the case'

Assigned to prosecute the property theft case, the Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the District People's Procuracy called the defendant to "suggest" a trial.

On October 31, Dak Lak Provincial Police served the Supreme People's Procuracy with the decision to prosecute the case and prosecute the accused against Mr. Ha Van Hung - Deputy Chief of the People's Procuracy of Ea Kar district, Dak Lak province for the act of "Receiving bribes".

Mr. Hung, who has just been prosecuted for the crime of "Receiving bribes".

According to the case file, at about 9:00 p.m. on May 5, 2016, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha (37 years old, residing in Hamlet 6B, Cu Ea Lang Commune, Ea Kar District) stole 267 pepper vines from the family of Mr. Nguyen Quang Coi (54 years old, residing in the same hamlet) and sold them for 3,850,000 VND. Mr. Ha was later prosecuted by the investigation agency for the crime of "Theft of property".

In January 2017, the Ea Kar District People's Procuracy decided to bring the case to trial and Mr. Hung was assigned to prosecute the case.

On April 5, Mr. Hung called Mr. Ha to come to the office to discuss some matters. Here, Mr. Hung told Mr. Ha that his crime could result in a sentence of more than 6 months in prison and “suggested” Mr. Ha “run the case” to get a suspended sentence.

After many discussions, on April 25, Mr. Hung called Mr. Ha to inform him that someone was taking care of "running the case" for him with a cost of 10 million VND.

Mr. Ha filed a report with the authorities earlier.

On May 3, the Ea Kar District People’s Court brought the case to trial and sentenced Mr. Ha to 7 months in prison. On May 4, Mr. Ha brought 10 million VND to Mr. Hung’s house.

Later, after receiving Mr. Ha's complaint, Dak Lak Provincial Police started an investigation and forwarded the complaint to the Supreme People's Procuracy for review. The case was then clarified by the Supreme People's Procuracy's Investigation Agency and Mr. Hung was arrested for "Accepting bribes".
