October Revolution: Experience for Vietnam on the path of building socialism

Lessons from the collapse of the Soviet Union are experiences for world revolutionary history, for peoples around the world and for Vietnam.

100 years ago, under the leadership of the Russian Bolshevik Party headed by the great Lenin, the working class and working people of Russia rose up in a mass uprising to overthrow the bourgeois government and counter-revolutionarily established the Soviet state, the first workers' and peasants' state in the world, opening a new era in human history, the era of transition to socialism on a worldwide scale.

The success of the October Revolution in Russia not only marked the birth of the first socialist state in the world but also created the premise for the birth of the socialist system, a social regime that eliminated all oppression and injustice, bringing justice, equality, and freedom to people, in contrast to the previous social regimes of the exploiting class.

The birth of the Soviet state and the great development of the Soviet Union in the first decades of building socialism fully demonstrated the strength and superiority of socialism.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Viet Thao, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, said that the Russian October Revolution in 1917 broke out exactly 100 years ago. Over the past century, there have been different assessments of the communists' career. The historical reality of the world has now proven the great and lasting historical and contemporary value of the Russian October Revolution.

This revolution established the Soviet regime of workers, peasants, soldiers and the revolutionary masses of Russia, which is a socialist regime. This also means that with the victory of the October Revolution in Russia and the birth of the Soviet state, Capitalism is no longer the sole force in the global economy and politics and has had to start coexisting with Socialism.

The success of the Russian October Revolution brought a new light to the era, the light of Marxism-Leninism spread to Vietnam. The October Revolution not only illuminated the path of the Vietnamese revolution but also encouraged the masses of workers and peasants to rise up and make revolution, overthrow the colonial and feudal domination and seize power for the people.

The great victory of the Soviet Red Army in defeating the Japanese militarists and forcing them to surrender unconditionally on August 15, 1945 created a very important premise for the Vietnamese people to successfully carry out the August Revolution in 1945, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Prof. Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan, Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, affirmed that the Russian October Revolution truly opened a new era for mankind. An era that not only advances to Socialism but also changes the lives and lifestyles of the whole world, including Vietnam.

That revolution was the driving force and inspiration for the struggle of the people of capitalist countries to gain freedom, food, clothing and rights for themselves. The great achievement of the October Revolution in Russia in the Soviet countries, in the entire socialist system in the world, but it led to the collapse in 1991, becoming a bloody lesson for us, especially for a country like Vietnam that is following and building socialism.

“The lesson is that we must continuously and creatively apply Marxism-Leninism, lessons learned from around the world, or even we must open our arms to absorb all good experiences of humanity to serve the cause of national construction and development,” said Professor, Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan.

Along with the profound changes of the times and the world, with the spirit of looking straight at the truth, correctly assessing the truth and clearly stating the truth, our Party has resolutely overcome mistakes and shortcomings in the process of building socialism in Vietnam; persevering in the cause of innovation initiated from the 6th Congress in December 1986 until now.

After more than 30 years of renovation, as a genuine Party, in any circumstances the Party has always steadfastly pursued the goal of national independence associated with socialism on the basis of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought. At the same time, it has constantly and selectively absorbed and appropriately utilized the values ​​of human civilization to realize the revolutionary path that the Party, President Ho Chi Minh and our people have chosen.

Mr. Vu Mao, former Head of the National Assembly Office, said that the collapse of the Soviet Union is a lesson for the history of world revolution, for the peoples of the world and especially for Vietnam. Therefore, it is necessary to study, learn from experience, and recognize the current situation of the country, what issues need to be innovated and innovated more strongly.

“The 6th Congress talked about comprehensive innovation, in which the top innovation is innovation in thinking. Currently, innovation in thinking has made some progress but is slow and the current situation of the country still has many problems, such as the issue of Party building and Party innovation. The lesson of the collapse of the Soviet Union needs to be looked back on, to draw out what is the experience, what is the cause, it is still deeply relevant, we cannot be subjective. Because the world situation and the country are developing at a new level, science and technology, the current information system is new. Therefore, in the current conditions, it is not easy to unify the assessment, the cause, and our development direction,” Mr. Vu Mao emphasized.

The great victories in the cause of national liberation and socialist construction in our country over the past 9 decades, especially in more than 30 years of renovation, have contributed to affirming the great stature, historical significance and contemporary value of the Russian October Revolution for the world revolution in general and the Vietnamese revolution in particular. At the same time, it is a vivid proof of the correctness of the revolutionary path that the Party, Uncle Ho and our people have chosen.

The 100th anniversary is an occasion to affirm the great significance and historical value of the Russian October Revolution. At the same time, it is also an opportunity for us to deeply recognize and analyze, thereby drawing out new, fast and sustainable development rules and methods for Vietnam on the path to building Socialism./.
