"We're going to stay an extra day in the Philippines. We have a big summit, a second summit, and I think we're going to talk about trade. We're going to talk about North Korea, obviously," Trump said on November 3 before heading to Hawaii, according to VOA. The decision was confirmed by senior White House officials.
Mr. Trump will visit Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines in the longest Asian tour by a US president in more than a quarter of a century.
Attending the East Asia Summit means he will add a 13th day to his itinerary, which begins on November 3, when he leaves the White House.
He will visit Japan and South Korea, seeking a united front against North Korea, before heading to Beijing, where he will urge President Xi Jinping to take a tougher line with Pyongyang.
The US President will then attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Da Nang, pay a state visit to Hanoi, and attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Manila, Philippines. Earlier, US officials said the President would leave the Philippines on November 14, before the opening of the East Asia Summit.
