Putin directs to provide Vietnam with 5 million USD in aid to overcome the consequences of storm No. 12

President Vladimir Putin instructed the Russian government to provide humanitarian aid to Vietnam to help overcome the damage caused by storm No. 12.

Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that in the face of a strong storm in central Vietnam, President Putin had a conversation with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Minister of Emergency Situations Vladimir Puchkov, and Minister of Finance Anton Siluanov.

Mr. Peskov said that, according to official figures, the current death toll is more than 60 people, dozens of people are missing, about 80,000 houses are damaged, about 40 thousand people have been evacuated from the disaster area.

"The President instructed the government office to provide humanitarian aid and carry out humanitarian activities. In this spirit, based on the report of Minister Puchkov, preparations are being made for the flight of the IL-76 transport aircraft carrying humanitarian aid to Vietnam," Peskov told reporters.

In addition, he noted that the President of the Russian Federation instructed the Cabinet to provide material assistance to Vietnam in the aftermath of the floods.

"The President also directed to provide assistance to Vietnam with an amount of 5 million USD," Peskov said; at the same time, he emphasized that Russia hopes that countries participating in the APEC summit will do the same as this country.

"The President and the Russian Federation proceed from the fact that this initiative will be heard for the countries, which in the second half of this week will participate in the APEC summit in Vietnam, in the city of Da Nang, to demonstrate solidarity with the Vietnamese people in the manner and to the extent that they consider possible for them",- the spokesman of the Russian leader expressed his opinion.
