Nghe An: More than 90% of businesses have not registered trademarks

(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An currently has 12,000 businesses registered for production and business, but the number of businesses registering for protection of trademarks, designs, inventions, and utility solutions is very small.

Nghe An currently has 811 protected objects with 636 trademarks, 53 designs, 7 utility solutions and 10 inventions. Compared to the whole country, the number of objects granted protection certificates by Nghe An enterprises is ranked as average, but compared to provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, the rate is too small, and very few enterprises effectively use the brand.

According to the Department of Science and Technology, more than 90% of businesses in Nghe An have not registered their trademarks. Among the registered trademarks, the number of trademarks associated with products is not much, only 60%.

Of the 636 protected trademarks, only about 30% are exploited by businesses and bring practical efficiency in production and business.

For protected assets, businesses have not actively promoted and exploited their value to enhance their competitiveness in the market.

Implementing science and technology policies to encourage and support businesses in registering for trademark protection, the number of projects receiving financial support under the policy mechanism annually accounts for 16% - still small compared to the number of subjects granted protection certificates.

Mr. Pham Hong Hai - Head of Technology Management and Market Development Department, Department of Science and Technology said: Nghe An has great potential for specialty seedlings, products bearing geographical names, and developing craft villages, but the number of protections for geographical indications and collective trademarks and certification trademarks is too small, not commensurate with the potential of the locality and compared to other localities in the country.

Currently, there are more than 32 products bearing geographical names and dozens of traditional craft village products that have not been registered to establish ownership.

The Head of the Department of Technology Management and Market Development, Department of Science and Technology added: Currently, we are focusing on supporting the development of intellectual property for businesses, planning to register 5 more geographical indications, 5 certification marks, 5 collective marks by 2020, including contents from creation to exploitation and development, supporting 20 small models to build collective marks from the subjects.

The number of subjects registered for industrial property protection reached 1,000 subjects, with attention paid to supporting the registration of protection for inventions, utility solutions and the exploitation and development of intellectual property.
