Promoting cooperation to connect the three economies of Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia

This is one of the contents agreed upon by the Prime Ministers of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia at a meeting on November 13 in the capital Manila of the Philippines.on the sidelines of the 31st ASEAN Summit.

According to the Vietnam News Agency Special Envoy, on November 13, in the capital Manila of the Philippines, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had a working session with Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on the sidelines of the 31st Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN 31).

At the meeting, the three Prime Ministers expressed their delight at the achievements of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia in national construction and development; the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam-Cambodia-Laos is increasingly being consolidated and developed in all fields, bringing practical benefits to the people of the three countries.

The three Prime Ministers reviewed the situation of tripartite cooperation in implementing the results of the agreements reached at the 9th Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Summit (CLV 9) in Siem Reap (Cambodia) in November 2016; agreed to direct ministries, sectors and localities of the three countries to promote cooperation in connecting the three economies, including transport and electric power connections.

The three Prime Ministers also agreed to promote the opening or upgrading of border gates; develop the rubber industry and tourism; cooperate well in environmental protection, management and sustainable use of natural resources; respond to climate change and water resources management; attract resources for development, with attention paid to mobilizing investment capital from development partners and the business community; integrate CLV projects into Mekong sub-regional cooperation programs and cooperation mechanisms of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV), the Ayeyarwady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Organization (ACMECS)….

On this occasion, the three Prime Ministers exchanged and shared experiences to promote cooperation in regional and international issues of mutual concern, and agreed to coordinate with other member countries for the success of this ASEAN Summit, for the common goal of building a united, peaceful, stable and strong ASEAN Community, actively contributing to maintaining peace, stability and promoting cooperation and development in the region and the world./.
