By the end of October 2017, Nghe An Department of Transport had licensed 261 automobile transport businesses, including: 39 units operating passenger transport on fixed routes and contracts; 25 units transporting passengers by taxi; 7 bus units; 190 freight transport units.
The total number of vehicles licensed for transport business is 9,973, including 742 fixed-route passenger cars, 344 contract cars, 250 buses, 2,000 taxis, 496 container trucks; 721 tractor-trailers and 5,420 trucks with a load capacity of 3.5 tons or more.
There are currently 127 inland waterway wharves in the province, including: 16 cross-river passenger wharves, 6 tourist wharves (along the river and from the shore to the island) and 105 cargo wharves.
The Department has granted registration certificates to 596 inland waterway vehicles operating in the transport of goods and passengers; approved 1 business unit to transport passengers by high-speed boat on the Lan Chau - Hon Ngu route (Cua Lo town).

During the year, the volume of goods transported reached about 20.5 million tons, the volume of goods circulated reached 2.87 billion tons; the number of passengers passing through Vinh Station was 373,970 passengers, the total volume of goods handled and unloaded reached 76,524 tons; the number of passengers passing through the airport was about 1.413 million passengers, revenue reached 48.8 billion VND; the volume of goods passing through the port was estimated at 2.628 million tons, revenue was estimated at over 120 billion VND.
To manage transport activities, the Department of Transport has established inspection teams to inspect compliance with transport regulations; thereby detecting a number of violations and making records to handle violations, rectifying and urging passenger transport businesses to strictly manage drivers, preventing speeding and reckless driving, causing disorder in traffic safety.
The Department has directed the Department Inspectorate to organize peak periods of inspection of compliance with regulations and conditions for passenger transport business by car and transport support services, focusing on strictly handling violations such as: stopping, parking, picking up and dropping off passengers in violation of regulations; driving on the wrong route or schedule; not having a transport badge; phenomena such as "illegal vehicles", "disguised contract vehicles", etc.
In addition, the Department of Transport has increased inspection and strictly handled freight vehicles violating the Road Traffic Law such as: transporting oversized goods, overloading, and spilling goods. As a result, 953 violations were inspected and recorded; fines were imposed for over 3.2 billion VND.
By the end of October 2017, the Department had handled 222 speeding vehicles through data extracted from journey monitoring devices, including: revoking badges for a period of 6 months for 15 vehicles, revoking badges for a period of 1 month for 86 vehicles and warning 121 vehicles; criticizing and warning 52 transport business units; assigning the Department Inspectorate to handle fines according to regulations.
At the conference, transport businesses and state management agencies discussed solutions to overcome existing shortcomings and limitations that need to be rectified; remove difficulties and obstacles in transport activities such as fixed-route vehicles running on the wrong route, driving in circles to pick up and drop off passengers, buses recklessly overtaking, competing for passengers, etc.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Director of the Department of Transport Nguyen Duc An highly appreciated the transport activities of enterprises; at the same time, affirmed that the Department will create the most favorable conditions for transport businesses to operate in accordance with regulations.
The Department of Transport also said that it will continue to tighten the management of transport activities and strengthen control of vehicle loads; improve service quality in road passenger transport activities, ensure traffic safety; maintain the operation of journey monitoring devices in accordance with regulations.

To ensure traffic safety during the New Year and Lunar New Year 2018, the entire sector will synchronously deploy measures to ensure traffic safety, arrange vehicles, and meet the maximum transportation needs to serve the travel needs of the people; closely and synchronously coordinate between forces, sectors, and levels in organizing solutions to ensure traffic safety in the province.
The Deputy Director of the Department of Transport requested transport businesses to strengthen ethics education for drivers; ensure fair competition among transport businesses.
On this occasion, the Director of the Department of Transport awarded Certificates of Merit to 5 collectives and 7 individuals with outstanding achievements in transportation work in 2017.
