Ivy League universities are known for their rigorous admission requirements, but compared to Birla Institute of Science and Technology (BITS), they are practically free to enter.

According to data from 2012, the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (in Pilani, India) had an acceptance rate of only 1.47%. This makes it the university with the highest acceptance rate in the world, meaning the chances of being accepted are unpredictable.

Birla Institute of Science & Technology (BITS) began operating in Pilani, India, in 1964 as a merger of the Humanities, Commerce, Engineering, Pharmacy, and Science schools.

Each year, BITS receives approximately 180,000 applications, primarily in the fields of Engineering and Science. However, only 2,600 are fortunate enough to be accepted (approximately 1.47%).

BITS is a top-ranked private university in India, a leader in engineering education. In 2017, it was proudly ranked 3rd among universities in India, according to Career360.

“BITS is a symbol of the growth of India’s engineering industry and the ‘I Can Do It’ spirit of businesses,” the school states on its website.

The teaching and learning at the school are no different from those at regular universities. However, candidates who pass the admissions process must still pass the extremely rigorous BITSAT exam, organized and designed by the school itself, covering all areas of Chemistry, Physics, Logic, and Mathematics. Only candidates who achieve 75% or higher are officially admitted to the school.

This test will comprehensively assess whether an applicant meets the school's basic requirements. Unlike most liberal arts colleges, the Birla Institute of Technology & Science does not evaluate applicants based on extracurricular activities or their potential for growth, but focuses directly on their knowledge.

The school's dormitories are fully equipped, much like convenient and comfortable "guesthouses." Students can choose double or single rooms, depending on their ability to integrate into a group.

Over the next three years, BITS plans to expand by adding several more campuses to meet the growing demand for enrollment. However, the Pilani campus will maintain its current enrollment quota without increasing any further admissions.
