Mazda CX-5 and Honda CR-V have both launched new versions recently, while other competing models have incentive programs that make this segment exciting.

Within 2 weeks, Honda CR-V 2018 and Mazda CX-5 2018 were simultaneously introduced to Vietnamese customers, along with news of price reductions from competitors, causing this segment to suddenly become bustling and receive more attention than usual.

Mazda CX-5 2018 highest price 989 million

On November 18, Mazda CX-5 2018 was introduced at a press conference held at Truong Hai factory in Chu Lai, where many other Mazda products are assembled. This can be considered a message about Thaco's investment and common development for the Vietnamese auto industry, before the integration period.

Returning to the CX-5, this CUV model is the name that dominates the segment in Vietnam, despite fierce competition from rivals. The new version has significantly changed its design style. The new appearance of this car line is considered more sophisticated than the old version, launched in 2012 in Vietnam. Meanwhile, the interior of this CUV model has also been redesigned.

In the segment, CX-5 is the best-selling car in Vietnam. Cumulative sales of this car model in the first 10 months of the year reached 6,910 cars, far exceeding the remaining models in the segment (Hyundai Tucson does not announce sales).

The new upgraded and redesigned version is sold for between 879 and 989 million VND.

Honda CR-V 7 seats

After the old sales promotion that caused a stir in September, the 5th generation Honda CR-V has been officially introduced in Vietnam. This crossover model has been raised to a new level of product, with many changes, technology upgrades and the addition of a 3rd row of seats.

The 5th generation Honda CR-V will be sold in Vietnam from January 2018.

With a 5+2 seat setup, the new CR-V is better than its main competitors, the Mazda CX-5 or Hyundai Tucson, while the Nissan X-Trail already has this setup. However, the third row of seats of the new Honda CR-V is considered more suitable for children than for adults.

In addition to the change in seating configuration, Honda CR-V also switched from assembly to direct import from Thailand. This car line benefits from 0% import tax, due to meeting the localization requirement in Thailand of more than 40%.

The new CR-V's design fixes some previously underrated points and adds driver assistance technologies. In addition, the CR-V is also only equipped with a single 1.5L VTEC Turbo engine. The exact selling price of the car has not been announced, but it will not exceed 1.1 billion VND.

Hyundai Tucson offers up to over 130 million

In November, before the release of new versions of its competitors, Hyundai Tucson applied a price reduction campaign from 85-130 million. This Korean crossover model is currently priced from 760 to 890 million VND, the lowest in the segment.

Hyundai Tucson 2017 offers up to 130 million in November.

Tucson 2017 was introduced in Vietnam in August, assembled at Hyundai Thanh Cong factory in Ninh Binh. Compared to its Japanese competitors, this Korean car model is also equipped with many supporting technologies. In addition, Tucson has an eye-catching design, with a European car feel.

This model has 2.0L and 1.6L Turbo engine options.

Constant price reduction race

Meanwhile, this segment has also been fiercely competitive in terms of selling prices in recent months. Nissan X-Trail has been offering cash incentives to car buyers for many consecutive months. Currently, the incentives for this car line range from 50 to 70 million VND.

The X-Trail also has a 5+2 seat setup, similar to the new Honda CR-V and is equipped with many modern features. However, sales of this model in recent months have been significantly lower than those of the Mazda CX-5 or Honda CR-V.

Mitsubishi Outlander, another crossover from Japan, has also been offering discounts of up to hundreds of millions of dong in recent months. This model will also be assembled in Vietnam instead of being imported in the near future.

Incentives on import tax and import tax on components for domestically assembled cars make the price and equipment race in the crossover segment in Vietnam much more exciting.
