After the rain, the road turns into a pond
(Baonghean.vn) - After the storm, many roads in Nghi Loc district, which were already degraded, are now even more severely damaged, causing obstacles for vehicles traveling in the area.
After just one heavy rain, the Nghi Van - Nghi Dien route, the 200m long section through hamlet 13 and Nghi Van market, had many large and small puddles densely covering the road surface.
Residents living in this area said that before the rainy season, Nghi Van commune had paved this road with rocks and flattened the surface, but after the storm, the road was quickly destroyed, creating potholes.
The main cause of this situation is that the road has no drainage ditches along it; combined with the frequent traffic, especially heavy trucks, which cause the road surface to quickly erode.

"With just one rain, this road will be covered in water. The worst part is that the students have to travel frequently; many of them have fallen and suffered injuries to their arms and legs..." - said Mr. Pham Van Long, a resident of Hamlet 13, Nghi Van Commune.
After the rainy season, many rural roads in Nghi Loc district are in the same situation. Typical examples are the Phuc Tho road to Son market in Nghi Thach commune; Duc - Thiet road; Nghi Xa road to Nghi Long; Nghi Phuong road to Nghi Dong; the road connecting National Highway 46 with Provincial Road 535... Many points on these roads have broken structures and eroded pavement with high density, after each rain, causing obstacles to traffic.
For example, on National Highway 48E, the section passing through Nghi Loc district has 5 points: Km 215+200, Km 215+500, Km 216+400, Km 220+450, Km 226+350 where the road surface is quite severely damaged. In addition to these 5 main points, many other points due to the impact of heavy rain, the roadside is eroded 10 - 15cm deep, 0.5 - 0.6m wide.

Overloaded vehicles are also the reason why roads quickly become severely damaged after storms. Photo: Nhat Tuan |
The reason for the deterioration is that although many roads have been upgraded and repaired, the pavements are not guaranteed and the roads do not have drainage systems. State management of means of transport on the roads is not guaranteed. Overloaded and oversized vehicles still occur.
To ensure traffic safety for people and vehicles, on October 15, 2017, Nghi Loc District People's Committee issued Directive No. 11/CT-UBND "On organizing a campaign for the whole population to mobilize to do traffic and irrigation works on October 16, proactively overcoming damages caused by natural disasters, serving the production of the 2017-2018 winter-spring crop". This directive includes the content of maintaining and repairing degraded and damaged traffic routes.
Mr. Ha Huy Dinh - Head of Nghi Loc Traffic Department said: Implementing the direction of Nghi Loc district, Nghe An Department of Transport, the Department has organized the maintenance and repair of National Highway 48E. Specifically, the unit has built the roadside from km208 to km216+500; used mechanical machines to dig and dredge the silted soil caused by floods that blocked the flow of water on the drainage system along 3 points: km203+500, km210+100 and km224+600; Organized the repainting of the system of marker posts, kilometer posts, and bridge edges on the route.

Currently, Nghi Loc Traffic Department is coordinating with the authorities of related communes to clear trees and clear the traffic safety corridor. The unit has patched up potholes that arose after storms on the route with a total area of 200m2. At the same time, the unit has requested the Management Board of Career and Economic Capital - Nghe An Department of Transport to provide capital to repair 5 severely damaged points on the route.
For damaged and degraded inter-commune and inter-village roads, communes focus on reinforcing the curbs and pouring gravel to ensure smooth road surfaces for people and vehicles. Organize drainage of flooded areas and clear traffic safety corridors in the last months of 2017.
