After removing the tire to be patched, the mechanic accidentally dropped the tire balance weight.

Mr. Ngoc Anh has just bought an Altis a few months ago. As a manager at an agency in Hanoi, he is very busy these days, still going to work every day on his beloved car, 7 km from home. One day, he had to go out for some work, and when he saw that the driver's side tire was flat, he quickly asked his colleague if there was a tire repair shop near his office.

Ten minutes after the call, a technician came to check the tire and said it had a nail and needed patching. The car owner agreed to let the technician take the tire back to the workshop. A few minutes later, the technician returned with a fully inflated tire and reinstalled it on the car.

Thinking everything was fine, he turned onto the third ring road and accelerated to 80 km/h, when the car shook violently, with a noticeable feedback force on the steering wheel. Thinking there was a problem with the car, he pulled into the emergency lane, turned on the hazard lights, and got out of the car to look at all four tires and saw that they were fine. He thought to himself, there must be no problem.

The second time, accelerating to 80 km/h, the newly purchased Altis vibrated violently. The driver thought it was probably because the tire had just been patched. To be sure, he took the car to the dealer for inspection. He described the process of the car vibrating when running at 80 km/h after changing the tire to the mechanic at the dealer.

After listening to the description, the mechanic confirmed that the tire after patching was not dynamically balanced. Observing with the naked eye and based on experience, this mechanic also discovered that the tire had lost a balancing lead on the rim.

After consulting some tire experts, car tires should be dynamically balanced after patching to avoid the car shaking when running at high speed. Some shops that do not specialize in tires usually only patch at the request of the car owner. Dynamic tire balancing costs money. The cost for each dynamic balancing ranges from 80,000 to 100,000 VND depending on the establishment. Meanwhile, a patch costs only 50,000 VND.

Dynamic tire balancing is to limit wear on steering and suspension components. You should take your car to a tire specialist or an authorized garage to have your tires checked to avoid wasting time and money.

Experts also recommend that after patching or replacing a tire, the wheel balance should be checked.
