Thieves broke into a series of villas, stole Vertu phones worth more than 2.7 billion

Hai Duong Provincial Police have just arrested a 'thief' who specializes in breaking into villas in Hai Duong to steal property.

Hai Duong Provincial Police said that the Criminal Police Department (Hai Duong Provincial Police) has just investigated and arrested Pham Dang Hong (born in 1995, residing in Nguyen Giap Commune, Tu Ky District, Hai Duong Province) when he was selling a Vertu phone worth more than 2.7 billion VND that was stolen from a villa in the area.

According to investigation documents, from the end of 2016 until now, Hai Duong City (Hai Duong province) has had consecutive property theft cases.

The subject often broke into villas in urban areas of Hai Tan ward, Hai Duong city between 4pm and 8pm every day, rummaging through and stealing valuable assets such as money, gold, and jewelry.

On November 8, the owner of a villa on Pham Cong Ban Street (Hai Tan Ward, Hai Duong City), when returning home from work, discovered a thief rummaging through his property. Despite shouting, the suspect managed to run away, taking a leather wallet containing 4.2 million VND, several ATM cards, and a Vertu phone worth more than 2.7 billion VND.

The Director of Hai Duong Provincial Police directed the Criminal Police Department to establish a case and coordinate with Hai Duong City Police to investigate and clarify the matter.

During the information gathering process, the detectives determined that this phone was a luxury phone. In Vietnam, there are only a handful of stores selling this type of phone, so the investigation team contacted a number of Vertu phone stores in Hanoi, Hai Duong, Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City to collect information.

After a period of concentrating forces and using professional measures, on November 17, the Criminal Police Department of Hai Duong Province Police arrested Pham Dang Hong (born in 1995) when he was selling the aforementioned Vertu phone to a phone store on Lach Tray Street, Hai Phong City, for 400 million VND.

Initially, Hong confessed to his crime. Hong also said that he dropped out of school after finishing 8th grade and then got into gambling, which led to a huge debt and led to theft. Hong often targeted villas because he thought they were places with many valuable assets...

After stealing the property, the subject did not sell it in Hai Duong province but sold it in neighboring provinces, and did not sell it twice in the same location... which made it difficult for the police to verify and arrest.

With the above tricks, from September 2016 to now, this subject has successfully carried out 5 thefts in the urban areas of Dong Nam Cuong and Ha Hai, Hai Tan ward, Hai Duong city with a total value of assets up to over 3 billion VND.

Currently, the case is being further investigated by the Criminal Police Department of the Provincial Police and Hai Duong City Police./.
