The Argentine Navy said on November 23 that it heard an unusual sound at sea near the location where the San Juan submarine sent its last signal, and said it was an "explosion."

Speaking at a press conference in the capital Buenos Aires, Navy spokesman Colonel Enrique Baldi said "an unusual, single, short, strong and non-nuclear sound resembling an explosion" was heard after the San Juan's last signal.

Earlier the same day, a spokeswoman for the US Embassy in Argentina confirmed that the object recently discovered by a US Navy aircraft near where an Argentine submarine sent its last signal last week was not the ship that many countries are searching for.

The Argentine patrol submarine ARA San Juan, carrying 44 sailors, has been missing since November 15 after sending its last signal.

The ship was then traveling in the South Atlantic as part of a patrol in Argentina's Exclusive Economic Zone, near the port of Madryn.

The search is still being actively carried out with the participation of about 4,000 people, along with many ships, planes and modern equipment from 10 countries such as the US, Chile, Brazil, UK, France and Spain.

Public opinion is increasingly concerned about the submarine running out of oxygen, which is only enough to supply the sailors for 7 days./.
