The list of candidates for the 2017 Men's Golden Ball includes 15 faces, of which 3 are from HAGL, including Nguyen Cong Phuong, Nguyen Van Toan and Vu Van Thanh.

However, many opinions say that the 3 faces of HAGL will hardly have a chance to win this title if their team continues to compete in the relegation battle like the last 3 seasons, especially Cong Phuong, who has always shown an erratic performance at both club level and the national team and U22.

Talking to the media about Cong Phuong's chances in the 2017 Men's Golden Ball race, Coach Le Thuy Hai admitted that the striker from Nghe An has little chance of competing with Van Quyet (Hanoi FC) or Thanh Trung (Quang Nam), but he believes that next season, when HAGL players are more mature and with the presence of Technical Director Chung Hae-seong, this team will compete successfully in the V.League and help Cong Phuong win the Golden Ball.

“I think the current generation of HAGL players will be successful next season. Cong Phuong in particular can play better, demonstrate his leadership role and influence on HAGL Club. Mistakes must be ignored, accepted, and looked at to strive for better. If he can do these things, Cong Phuong can win the Golden Ball title next year,” added the former Technical Director of B.Binh Duong and FLC Thanh Hoa.
