Received additional sentence for throwing concrete block at fellow inmate's head

(Baonghean.vn)- Due to a conflict, prisoner Hoang used concrete slag to throw at his fellow prisoner's head, causing injury.

On November 27, Tan Ky District People's Court tried the criminal case against Vu Van Hoang, born in 1993, registered in Tri Thuy village, Tri Thuy commune, Phu Xuyen district, Hanoi, currently serving a sentence at Team 24, Sub-camp No. 2, Prison No. 3, General Department VIII, Ministry of Public Security for the crime of "intentionally causing injury".

According to the indictment, at 5:00 a.m. on August 29, 2017, at Team 24, Sub-camp No. 2, Prison No. 3, General Department VIII, Ministry of Public Security, due to a conflict, prisoner Hoang and prisoner Luong Van Thang (born in 1994), currently serving a sentence at Team 28 in the same sub-camp, got into a fight.

Afterwards, the two were stopped by other prisoners, and prisoner Thang was taken back to his cell. Out of frustration, Hoang went to the back of the canteen of cell III3-III4, sub-camp No. 2, and picked up two concrete blocks to hit prisoner Thang.

At this time, many other prisoners saw and held Hoang's hand, but Hoang still pulled his hand away and ran to the back of the prison. While running away, Hoang used a piece of concrete to throw at the prisoners chasing him but missed.

When running to the prison yard area, sub-camp No. 2, Hoang continued to throw the remaining concrete block measuring 16 cm long and 10 cm high, hitting Le Sy Khanh (born in 1984) in the head, currently serving his sentence at Team 17.

As a result, Khanh suffered a head injury and was taken to the infirmary for first aid by the staff. He was then transferred to Nghe An General Friendship Hospital for treatment from August 29 to August 31, 2017.

On September 6, 2017, Khanh submitted a request for an assessment of the injury rate and criminal prosecution of Vu Van Hoang. The forensic center concluded: The health damage caused by Khanh's injury at the time of assessment was 13%.

At the investigation agency, Hoang completely admitted his criminal acts consistent with the evidence collected during the investigation of the case.

Previously, on February 21, 2014, Hoang was sentenced by the People's Court of Phu Xuyen District, Hanoi City to 6 years in prison for "intentionally causing injury", serving his sentence at Prison No. 3, Department 8, Ministry of Public Security. Hoang has served his sentence for 4 years, 2 months and 26 days.

At the end of the trial, the panel sentenced Vu Van Hoang to 3 years in prison, plus the previous sentence of 4 years, 9 months, and 4 days in prison.
