US Congress bans Russian TV channel from reporting

Russia Today (RT) journalists have been denied the right to report in the US Congress after the TV channel registered as a foreign press agency, according to a statement from the US Congressional Radio and Television Correspondents' Office.

The US Congress banned Russian TV station RT from operating.

"The Executive Committee of the Congressional Radio and Television Correspondents' Bureau used its authority... to revoke RT's accreditation by unanimous vote on November 21, 2017...", the statement read. The decision is effective immediately.

Speaking to reporters, Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov affirmed that this was an unfriendly step, further worsening US-Russia relations.

RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan predicts that Russia will respond to the TV channel's journalists being stripped of their reporting rights in the US Congress.

"Something tells me that the American media will not be allowed to work in the State Duma and the Federation Council today," Simonyan wrote on Telegram./.
