Bank employee rented car, caused accident and fled

(Baonghean.vn) - After causing the accident, instead of taking the victim to the emergency room, Hieu drove away. When questioned by the police, Hieu gave evasive answers in an attempt to cover up his crime.

On November 30, Nghi Loc District People's Court sentenced defendant Nguyen Quang Hieu (28 years old, residing in Dung town, Thanh Chuong district) to 15 months in prison for "Violating regulations on road traffic control". Hieu was the driver of the car that crashed into a motorbike, killing one person and injuring four others on the evening of June 26.

At the time of the accident, Nguyen Quang Hieu was a customer relations officer at a bank with a branch in Hung Nguyen district (Nghe An).

According to the investigation results of the Nghi Loc District Police Department, late at night on June 26, Mr. Ho Duc Giang (32 years old, residing in Quynh Tam commune, Quynh Luu district) drove a motorbike with license plate 37P4-3938 carrying his wife and 3 young children, traveling on National Highway 1A in the direction of Vinh City - Quynh Luu district.

When Mr. Giang arrived at Nghi Yen commune, Nghi Loc district, he was hit from behind by a 4-seater car going in the opposite direction. The accident caused 5 people on the motorbike to be thrown onto the road, and Mr. Giang, his wife and 3 children were seriously injured. Due to the serious injuries, Mr. Giang's eldest child, D., died shortly after.

Immediately after the accident, Nghi Loc District Police focused on searching for the car that caused the accident and fled. By the afternoon of June 27, Nghi Loc District Police discovered a KIA-Cerato car that caused the accident being repaired at a garage on Le Nin Avenue. At this time, the car had been repaired and many parts replaced. Through extracting the garage's camera, traces were found similar to those collected at the scene.

Working with the car owner, it was learned that Hieu rented the car. However, when the authorities arrived, Hieu denied it and replied that he rented the car but lent it to a friend to evaluate the customer.

When summoned to the court, Nguyen Quang Hieu still deliberately tried to deny his crime. However, through the process of investigation, Hieu had to admit that he was the one who caused the serious accident. He said that he was afraid of affecting his colleague, so he did not confess honestly.

In addition to the 15-month prison sentence, the panel of judges required the defendant to pay 240 million VND in compensation.
