(Baonghean.vn) - Le Thi Thu Huong, 16 years old, in Dien Hai commune, Dien Chau district (Nghe An) has researched and created a model of electricity generation using ocean wave energy to serve boats.

Born and raised in the coastal area, often exposed to fishing trips, seeing the high cost of fuel for the trips while the price of raw materials is increasing, inspired Huong to realize the idea of making a generator from ocean waves, because this is an abundant source of energy.

Thinking is doing, Huong researched on websites, learned about the reality of fishermen, consulted teachers at school to draw up a design diagram and machine structure.

Thầy Nguyễn Minh Đồng, giáo viên Tin học của trường THCS Diễn Hải, Diễn Châu cho biết chiếc máy có khả năng áp dụng vào thực tế đi biển rất cao, trong điều kiện chi phí xăng dầu đang tăng từng ngày. Ảnh: Quang An
Mr. Nguyen Minh Dong - IT teacher of Dien Hai Secondary School, Dien Chau district said that the model has a high potential for practical application in seafaring, in the condition that fuel costs are increasing day by day. Photo: Quang An

Huong and her close friend Nguyen Minh Lanh, who lives in the same commune, started the manufacturing process. To save money, the couple went to scrap metal shops to buy scrap to make machines for no more than 1 million VND.

Huong said the structure of the model is quite simple, consisting of two force-generating rods, two flywheels taken from children's wheels and a piece of foam to act as a buoy. When the waves hit the foam, it will rotate the force-generating rods and flywheels, then pull the generator to rotate.

Although the idea was like that, all beginnings are difficult, the first two attempts did not give the expected results.

Not giving up, Huong and Lanh continued to research and repair the machine's parts. On the third time, when they took the machine out to sea to operate, the electric light came on. The young couple had succeeded, to the admiration of their family, teachers, friends...

Huong shared: If fishermen apply wave energy generators according to this model, it will be very convenient and save a lot of costs when fishing at sea. If they can take advantage of the materials, the cost will not be high, only about 1 million VND, compared to the current price of gasoline, it will save millions of VND per trip.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Dong - Teacher who directly instructed Huong and Lanh said: This model has a very high potential for practical application, because it is not only compact and easy to carry on the boat, but also has very low production costs.

This model won the first prize in the Youth Innovation Contest in Dien Chau district. Through discussion, Mr. Tran Quoc Thanh - Director of Nghe An Department of Science and Technology highly appreciated this idea and always encouraged students to explore and learn to have many inventions to apply in real life.
