Ministry of Finance responds to information that there are 181 Department Directors

On December 1, the Ministry of Finance responded to a media report that “The Ministry of Finance has 181 Department Directors.” The Ministry of Finance confirmed that there are currently only 7 department directors at the Ministry of Finance.

Accordingly, according to the provisions of Decree No. 87/2017/ND-CP dated July 26, 2017 of the Government on the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Ministry of Finance: “The Ministry of Finance is a Government agency, performing the state management function on: Finance - budget (including: state budget, taxes, fees, charges and other revenues of the state budget, state reserves, state financial funds, financial investment, corporate finance, cooperative finance and collective economy, public assets according to the provisions of law); customs; accounting; independent auditing; prices; securities; insurance; financial services and other services under the state management scope of the Ministry; representing the owner of state capital in enterprises according to the provisions of law”.

With the above mentioned large scale and management areas, the organizational structure of the Ministry of Finance has 20 departments, specialized bureaus and a number of public service units. Up to now, there are 7 department heads at the Ministry of Finance.

In addition, the Ministry of Finance also has 5 general departments and equivalent units under its management (including: General Department of Taxation, General Department of Customs, General Department of State Reserves, State Treasury, State Securities Commission).

Of the 5 General Departments and equivalents mentioned above, 4 General Departments are organized vertically from the Central to the district level according to administrative boundaries (State Treasury, General Department of Taxation), and by region (General Department of Customs, General Department of State Reserves).

There are a total of 183 Departments in localities including: 63 Provincial and Municipal State Treasuries, 63 Provincial and Municipal Tax Departments, 35 Regional Customs Departments, and 22 Regional State Reserve Departments.
