Foreign beef priced at several million VND per kilogram is flooding into Vietnam.
If in the past the market mostly featured Australian and Indian beef, now high-end American, Japanese and Danish beef is increasingly available.
At the beef shop on Cao Thang Street, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City, Japanese beef costs up to nearly 3 million VND per kilogram, the cheapest type is nearly 2 million.
According to the store staff, this is a premium Japanese beef, raised according to high-quality processes. Before being supplied to the farm, the food must undergo strict quality control stages, and the nutrition in the food is also supplemented with many natural herbs to enhance digestion and immunity.

Also selling high-quality Japanese beef, the owner of a shop in Ba Dinh, Hanoi, said that the shop currently has two types: shoulder tenderloin and loin.Wagyu withPrice 3.2-3.3 million VND per kg. Every month, the store imports a few dozen kg, mainly supplying restaurants and some retail customers. "This type is quite expensive and difficult to import, so I only buy a lot when customers order in large quantities. Mostly, I only import according to monthly demand," said the store owner.
Newly introduced to Vietnam, Danish beef at the store on Bui Huu Nghia Street (District 5) costs nearly 2.7 million VND per kilogram. The staff here said that this product is equivalent to Wagyu beef (Japan), they have dense fat stripes interwoven evenly, delicious taste. Marbled ribeye is a product favored by many customers. Most of them are rich people who understand the product to buy. In addition to Danish beef, American black beef tenderloin is sold for over 1.7 million VND per kilogram.
“There are many types of American beef, but this product is the highest quality, so it is quite expensive. The reason these types of beef are so expensive is because the meat is soft, fragrant, and melts in your mouth when eaten. The amount of fat interspersed in the meat helps increase the deliciousness. The fat from these cows is not too much or too little, so it is not greasy,” said a staff member at this store.
Also selling imported beef products priced at over one million VND per kilogram, Mr. Giang, manager of a beef store in Go Vap (HCMC), said that while previously his store only sold Indian and Australian beef, now the amount of imported American beef is much greater.
“My store has a full range of products from 220,000 to over 1 million VND per kilogram. Previously, there were only 1-2 customers asking for premium American beef each day, but now the number has tripled. Many regular customers come back to buy because of the quality of the product and its attractive taste.
Recently, the Governor of Gifu Province Furuta Hazime (Japan), Mr. Furuta Hazime, during his visit and work in Vietnam, confirmed that Hida beef - a higher quality meat than Kobe beef, raised in Gifu prefecture, priced at 18,000 yen (over 3 million VND per kg), will be available in the Vietnamese market in early August.
