Valencia failed to close the gap with Barca to two points after losing 0-1 to Getafe.

Valencia missed a good chance to shorten the gap when chave the advantage of playing after Barca in round 14 of La Liga.Coach Marcelino's team lost 0-1 at Getafe with the only goal conceded in the 66th minute.

Markel Bergara had two lucky strikes for the home side. First he collected the ball from a clearance fromGabriel Pauleta, and then the shot caused the ball to hit Pauleta's foot and change direction into the goal.

Getafe won the game despite being down a man. Mauro Arambarri was shown a second yellow card in the 25th minute. In total, the referee issued 12 yellow cards (eight for Getafe) and one red card during the match.

The loss to Getafe was also Valencia's first defeat of the 2017-2018 La Liga season. Coach Marcelino's team had nine wins and four draws, including two draws with Real Madrid and Barca.

Valencia not only failed to shorten the gap with Barca, but also widened it when comparing the two rounds. The gap from four points in the previous round increased to five points after round 14 (36-31).

In third place, Atletico is currently close behind Valencia with 30 points. Real Madrid and Sevilla are next with 38 points each.
