Each hectare of cassava cultivation gives the highest income of only 25 million VND.
(Baonghean.vn) - Farmers in Anh Son district (Nghe An) are in the cassava harvest season. However, after a year of planting and caring for cassava, each hectare of cassava only brings in an income of 20 - 25 million VND/ha.
This season, both sides of the main roads leading to villages in Anh Son district have become places for people to gather cassava sacks, carefully tied up, waiting for traders to come and buy them. Currently, the cassava purchase price is 1,500 VND/kg, 500 VND/kg higher than last year. That partly encourages farmers to grow cassava.

On the cassava hills in Hoa Son and Tuong Son communes these days, households are exchanging labor with each other so that every household's cassava can be harvested and sold in the shortest time possible to ensure productivity.
Mrs. Tran Thi Thanh's family in Yen Hoa village, Hoa Son commune, grows nearly 1 hectare of cassava. Currently, the family has harvested about 6 sao. According to Mrs. Thanh's calculations, this year her family harvested more than 15 tons of cassava, selling at 1,500 VND/kg in the field, after deducting investment costs, the profit is 20 million VND.
This year, the weather was favorable throughout the process of planting, caring for, and harvesting cassava, and especially the purchase price increased compared to last year.

Every year, in November of the solar calendar, the family starts planting and harvests in November of the following year." Up to this point, her family has harvested 4 tons of cassava on an area of nearly 2 sao.
Growing cassava is not difficult, the investment capital is not much, there are almost no pests or diseases, however, the biggest concern when growing cassava is the market.
This year, cassava prices are a little higher, so people have more income. However, each hectare of cassava, after deducting expenses, only brings in an income of 20 to 25 million VND.

In recent years, rural transportation has developed, most villages have roads leading to the village center, so transporting cassava is easier. However, the area of cassava cultivation in Anh Son district has decreased compared to previous years.
In 2016, the district had over 1,000 hectares, but in 2017, the area decreased to 773 hectares. The main reason was that the purchase price was unstable, while the price of agricultural materials and labor costs were high.
