'Did you hit me?'

The hardships of preschool teachers are immeasurable, but surely their suffering is even greater as society's trust in them is waning.

When children come home from kindergarten, what is the question parents often ask? It is'Did you hit me?'.

According to sociologist Dr. Pham Thi Thuy (National Academy of Public Administration, Ho Chi Minh City campus), this question is a terrible insult to the love of teachers and to the image of preschool teachers.

At the program "Protect your child" recently organized by Kindergarten 15, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Thuy said that from a few "bad apples" who abuse children, many children have been unintentionally haunted by adults: the risk of being beaten by their teachers. Right from the beginning of their lives, children have been "poisoned" to doubt the good love that their teachers have for them!

It is true that parents are confused after child abuse cases are discovered. But how many people see the trauma of preschool teachers who truly love their job and children?

The hardships of preschool teachers are immeasurable.

At the above program, a teacher almost burst into tears when she said that after the violence at Mam Xanh kindergarten, she felt like there was always an invisible camera from the parents pointing at her.

That is when parents bring their children to class and stand outside the window to see how the teacher feeds their children. Then there is a child who has just woken up from an illness and is whining and refusing to go to school. The parents ask the teacher directly what made the child afraid and not want to go to class...

In fact, about 1/3 of a preschool child's day is spent with teachers, and the remaining 2/3 of the child's time is spent with parents and family.

However, many parents always assume and entrust the task of teaching children to teachers, from eating, practicing skills, imparting knowledge, personal hygiene... to sex education and preventing abuse.

As in the above program, more than half of the parents did not attend even though they had previously wanted the school to organize skills education activities to protect their children from violence and sexual abuse.

According to Dr. Pham Thi Thuy, to raise children, in addition to love as an available energy, parents and teachers must also learn how to love and protect their children.

Instead of asking "Did I hit you?", ask your child positive questions like "What did I praise you for in class today?", "What new game or song did I teach you?"... Or parents can play a role-playing game between teacher and student, through which children will help reenact the story in class.

Having to work continuously from early morning to late afternoon, the hardships of preschool teachers are immeasurable, but surely their suffering is greater, as society's trust in them is increasingly waning.

And then will the children grow up with complete faith in human love?
