Competition to select Vietnamese ambassador to attend the World Office Informatics Championship

The three first prize winners in the Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint categories at the national finals will be Vietnamese ambassadors to compete in the US.

December 5, Central Youth Union and IIG Vietnam Education Organizationlaunched the MOS World Championship 2018 in Vietnam. This is the ninth year the competition has been held to select three representatives to participate in the world finals.

To become Vietnam's ambassador in the international arena, candidates must go through two rounds of competition. In the national qualifying round,Candidates will take the MOS Specialist exam to assess their skills in using Microsoft Office programs including: Microsoft Word 2013, Excel 2013 and PowerPoint 2013.

120 excellent candidates of each competition content won the right to continue to the national final round. Here, candidates participated in the contentMicrosoft Word and Excel 2013 require two exams, including the MOS Expert exam (assessing advanced skills in using Word and Excel office software programs) and the Scenario exam (simulating real-life situations that require candidates to perform a series of operations to create a complete product). Candidates participating in the Microsoft PowerPoint 2013 content only take the Scenario exam.

The three national winners in the three categories will become Vietnam’s 2018 MOS ambassadors to compete in the world finals held in Orlando, Florida (USA) from July 29 to August 1, 2018. The national champions have the opportunity to win world prizes worth 7,000 USD for first place, 3,500 USD for second place and 1,500 USD for third place.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Youth Union, said that in 2018, the three contestants who won the national first prize will be awarded the Creative Youth badge - the most noble badge of Vietnamese youth.

The Office IT Championship is held annually on a global scale by Certiport (USA) - the world's leading corporation in providing IT certificates. 2018 is the ninth year that Vietnam has organized a national round to select candidates to participate in this competition.

From more than 30 universities and colleges participating in 2010, after eight seasons, the competition has attracted more than 500 junior high schools, high schools, colleges and universities, reaching more than three million students nationwide.

In the 2017 season, three Vietnamese representatives participated in the world finals and achieved high results. Among them, Bui Manh Tu, a 10th grade student at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (Nam Dinh), won the only bronze medal in the world in the Microsoft Word 2013 category. The remaining two contestants were in the top 7 and top 9 in the world in the Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint 2013 categories.
