A man in Ho Chi Minh City both worked and studied to receive eight university degrees with the belief that he was "poor in material things but not poor in knowledge".

On the morning of February 9, Ho Chi Minh City Open University awarded diplomas to more than 900 students through distance learning, including a 68-year-old person who received his eighth diploma in Business Administration.

According to a representative of the Distance Learning Center (Ho Chi Minh City Open University), this student had previously received seven university degrees, five of which were granted by this university in the fields of Information Technology, Economics, Construction, Accounting, and Economic Law.

In addition, the student also graduated from English (Hanoi University) and Law (Hue University). He is currently preparing to complete 12 subjects in Finance - Banking at the Open University.

For personal reasons, the 68-year-old student was not present at the graduation ceremony. Sharing with VnExpress, he said he did not want many people to know about him because "looking around, I am not as good as anyone else".

Born in a poor rural area in the Southwest, after receiving his first university degree in Hanoi, he went to work and started studying. Studying a lot helped him in his work.

"The more I study, the more I realize how little I know. I want my children and grandchildren to understand that even if they are poor in material things, they must not be poor in knowledge. They must strive to study whenever possible," he said.
