The US military force stationed in Japan has apologized for the unfortunate incident that took place on the morning of December 13.

According to a police officer in Okinawa, a Japanese island in the Pacific Ocean, “the students were in the gymnasium when the accident happened. But no one was seriously injured.”

The police officer said the helicopter window that fell to the ground was about 90 cm in size.

In an interview on TBS, the mother of a student who was in physical education class at the time of the accident angrily said that “the children could have died if the door had fallen a little bit to the side.”

The US military has acknowledged the situation is “extremely serious” and has opened an investigation. “This is an unfortunate incident and we apologize for the concern this has caused,” a US military spokesman said.

Japanese government spokesman Yoshihide Suga also spoke out, "This incident not only caused anxiety for those present at the school but also for the people of Okinawa and should never have happened."

This is not the first time a US helicopter has crashed in Okinawa. Two months ago, a US military helicopter caught fire in a dry field in the area. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
