US expert adds to pain after F-22 escape

While the controversy over the F-22 fleeing when approached by a Su-35S in Syria has not yet ended, American experts have added to this pain with their analysis.

According to analysis by National Interest Magazine, most Americans still believe that the 5th generation stealth fighter F-22 Raptor is one of the most modern fighter jets in the world, while the Russians only possess the 4++ generation Su-35 but it is superior to the F-22.

The National Interest newspaper said that Americans' belief in the power of the F-22 shows that Americans are too delusional. The modern American F-22 aircraft has some fatal weaknesses, including the ability to be blind in the infrared range.

Accordingly, the F-22's main opponents have full infrared detection and tracking sensors, which means they can detect targets by heat signatures.

In addition, the F-22 fighter jet also does not have a secondary radar station, which means that after launching the missile, it cannot update new data. Due to the lack of this radar station, when the aircraft changes its rotation angle, it may lose the ability to locate the target, the NI newspaper said.

Known as a 5th generation tactical fighter, the F-22 program began in 1981. The US Air Force contracted General Dynamics and McDonnell Douglas to produce the "air-to-ground" fighter, capable of flying at Mach 2.5.

The F-22 Raptor is a stealth fighter, capable of flying at supersonic speeds, equipped with highly integrated electronic systems and the maneuverability of a long-range aircraft. It is planned to replace the F-15. Based on technical features, replacing the F-15 with the F-22 is necessary, but it will take more time because the F-15 accounts for nearly 50% of the US aircraft.

Recall that shortly after the program began, the US Air Force cut a large portion of its budget for improving the capabilities of the F-22. Due to the lack of funds, a number of systems were cut, including the infrared search, detection and tracking system and the secondary radar scanning station.

Later, due to the need for modern multi-role fighters, the US Air Force decided to provide investment to upgrade the F-22 to be more complete, but the cost for them was too expensive, National Interest said.

The American F-22 Raptor fighter is considered the main competitor of the Russian-made Su-35S, which has all the necessary systems, in particular, infrared search and tracking systems with radar systems, which are the advantages of the Su-35S. For Russian fighters, they are an important advantage that allows the aircraft to fight both day and night.

Compared to the F-22, the Russian Su-35 fighter jet has had a complete advantage right from the start. Russian experts and engineers have not made any mistakes, while the American F-22 had to change its design due to lack of funding.

Because of this, they are equipped with old technology, so if the US wants to upgrade them in the future, it will need to provide a large amount of funding, and this is unlikely to become a reality.

And this defect is considered the reason why the F-22 pilot lacked confidence and turned around to flee when facing a fully armed Russian Su-35S in the Syrian sky on November 23, the American magazine admitted.
