More than 57,000 Volkswagen Touareg SUVs with 3.0-liter diesel engines have been recalled due to issues related to emissions cheating.

Volkswagen will recall more than 57,000 Touareg models globally after Germany's KBA auto watchdog discovered the SUV's 3.0-liter diesel engine had two illegal emissions control devices.

The official recall was announced on December 8 and applies to 57,600 Touaregs using Euro 6 diesel engines worldwide, of which 25,800 are in the German market.

In a recent statement, the KBA confirmed the recall was ordered on December 8. "Two unacceptable shutdown devices were found during an inspection of the VW-Touareg 3.0-litre Euro 6 diesel engine by the Federal Motor Vehicle Administration."

The KBA alleges that the Touaregs were fitted with a program that automatically reduced emissions when the vehicles underwent emissions tests.

In July, German authorities also announced the recall of 22,000 diesel-powered Porsche Cayenne versions in Europe after discovering problems with similar emission control devices./.
