Solemn Ceremony to Celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of Patriot Phan Boi Chau

(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of December 16, Nghe An Province solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of patriot Phan Boi Chau and receive the certificate of ranking as a special national monument.

Attending the ceremony, on the Japanese side were Mr. Hiroyuki Miyazawa - Member of the Japanese House of Representatives; representatives of the Japan - Vietnam Friendship Association, Asaba Association of Shizuoka province.

On the Central Committee side, there were comrades: Vuong Dinh Hue - Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister; Phan Dinh Trac - Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission; Nguyen Xuan Thang - Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics; Nguyen The Ky - Member of the Party Central Committee, General Director of the Voice of Vietnam; Le Thi Thuy - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Inspection Commission; representatives of leaders of central departments, ministries and branches.

On the side of Nghe An province, there were comrades: Nguyen Dac Vinh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Nguyen Xuan Son - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; comrades of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee; representatives of leaders of departments, branches, sectors and localities in the province.

The representative of Phan Boi Chau's descendants is Mr. Phan Thieu Cac (his grandson).

The commemorative speech was presented by comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province, reviewing the life and career of patriotic scholar Phan Boi Chau.

Real name ofPhan Boi Chau was Phan Van San, born on December 26, 1867 in a poor Confucian family in a countryside rich in cultural and patriotic traditions - Dan Nhiem village, Xuan Hoa commune, Nam Dan district, Nghe An province.

Growing up in a country invaded by French colonialists, Phan Boi Chau was filled with fighting spirit. When he passed the national exam, his patriotism to save the people rose higher than ever. He vowed to dedicate his life to national freedom and his compatriots.

During his journey to fulfill his mission of saving the country, Phan Boi Chau traveled to many countries in Southeast Asia and East Asia to study and launched many patriotic movements such as Duy Tan Association, Dong Du Association, Vietnam Restoration Association... attracting the participation of all classes of people.

Outstanding among them was the Dong Du movement with the timeless thoughts of a Confucian scholar of that time. Phan Boi Chau changed the perception of many young people, who had to study to renew their thinking, revive the spirit and intelligence of the people.

The Dong Du movement laid the foundation for profound changes in our country in the early 20th century, contributing to training a team of intellectuals ready to accept the path of proletarian revolution, many of whom later became key figures of the Vietnamese Revolution such as Ho Hoc Lam, Dang Thuc Hua, Vo Tung, Nguyen Duc Cong, Nguyen Thuc Duong...

Phan Boi Chau was not only a typical revolutionary of the Vietnamese national liberation movement, but also a patriotic culturalist and the greatest democratic thinker in Vietnam in the early 20th century.

He left to posterity not only a huge and rich treasure of works containing a huge amount of knowledge, but above all, a steadfast heart for the country; a noble personality, a sharp and sensitive thinking style.

During his career, Phan Boi Chau also played the role of cultural ambassador between Vietnam and Japan, becoming a bridge for cultural, scientific and educational exchange between the two countries, contributing to further fostering friendship.

Phan Boi Chau and his career hold a very important position in modern Vietnamese history. As President Ho Chi Minh commented: Phan Boi Chau is “A hero, an angel, a person who sacrificed himself for national independence, revered by 20 million enslaved people”.

The ceremony to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of patriot Phan Boi Chau and solemnly receive the Certificate of ranking the Phan Boi Chau Memorial Site in Nam Dan as a special national historical relic is the honor and recognition of the Party, State and people for Phan Boi Chau's great contributions to the history of national development.

Presenting the Certificate of National Special Monument and speaking at the ceremony commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of patriot Phan Boi Chau, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue affirmed: Phan Boi Chau was an ardent patriot, a great culturalist and thinker, leaving deep marks in the history of Vietnam, in the journey of national culture. His personality, his revolutionary enthusiasm, his love for his homeland are forever engraved in the memories of millions of Vietnamese people and in the heroic pages of history and the nation.

The Phan Boi Chau Memorial Site was awarded the Certificate of Special National Monument, showing that our Party, State and People always respect and highly appreciate the many contributions of Mr. Phan to the country in a heroic historical period of the whole nation. At the same time, it acknowledges the efforts and contributions of the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Nghe An province in general, and Nam Dan district in particular, in preserving, embellishing and promoting the cultural and historical values ​​of the Relic Site.

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue suggested: Nghe An province, Nam Dan district, Nam Dan town, Xuan Hoa commune, Phan clan and all classes of people continue to preserve the relic site well; develop this place into a red address to attract, gather and educate Vietnamese patriotism; educate and promote the cultural, patriotic and revolutionary traditions of Nghe An; help current and future generations to appreciate and remember the merits of their ancestors, strive to study, practice and strive to build and defend the Fatherland.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nghe An province, Nam Dan district and related units need to conduct research to be able to renovate and reasonably expand the space of Phan Boi Chau Memorial Site; effectively organize and implement the approved Master Plan for conservation and promotion of the value of the relic site; need to connect and promote the multi-faceted values ​​of historical and cultural relic sites to make tourism truly an important economic sector of the province and localities with advantages.

The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the International Scientific Conference with the theme "Patriot Phan Boi Chau - Doctor Asaba Sakitaro and the Vietnam - Japan Friendship Relations" successfully organized by the Hanoi National University, the Provincial Party Committee, the People's Committee of Nghe An Province, Waseda University (Japan), and the Japan Foundation for International Cultural Exchange, which has left many good impressions in the Vietnam - Japan friendship relations.

Within the framework of the ceremony, the leaders of the Central and Nghe An provinces held a ceremony to receive the Certificate of special national relic ranking to the Memorial Site of the Patriotic Scholar in Nam Dan district; offered incense and started construction of the statue of Phan Boi Chau at the Memorial Site in Nam Dan district./.
