Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association of Nghe An province: Receiving the Government's Excellent Emulation Flag

(Baonghean.vn) - The Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Nghe An province organized many diverse activities, did a good job in people-to-people diplomacy, and fostered the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

On the morning of December 17, the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Nghe An province held a ceremony to celebrate its 50th anniversary (1967-2017), receiving the Emulation Flag of the Government. Attending the ceremony were comrade Ta Minh Chau - Permanent Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association; Le Xuan Dai - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Nghe An province; leaders of departments, branches, sectors at the provincial, district, city, town levels, friendship associations; Lao students studying in Nghe An.

In 1967, when the resistance war against the US was at its fiercest, along with the establishment of the Western Region Committee, the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Nghe An province was established, responding to the people's expectations for a special relationship with Laos, a country with a long-standing tradition of friendship, fighting together against common enemies, and relying on each other to build and develop.

After the country's liberation, implementing the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Treaty (July 18, 1977) and the border agreement, Nghe An and the border provinces overcame difficulties in building main and secondary markers along the 419km border, joining hands to build a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and mutual development.

The Association, together with the Border Guard, has made an important contribution to mobilizing the people of the 6 border districts of Ky Son, Que Phong, Tuong Duong, Con Cuong, Anh Son, Thanh Chuong to fight against free migration, unregistered marriage, illegal proselytizing, opium cultivation, not listening to the bad arguments of hostile forces, helping each other in production, exchanging goods, cultivating the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos; doing well the responsibility of widely propagating and educating the young generation to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors, and enhancing the friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

The Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Nghe An province has 11 member associations with more than 4,000 members; it is a particularly important bridge, contributing to fostering the increasingly developing Vietnam - Laos relationship.

After 27 years of searching and gathering, the people of Nghe An received and buried nearly 12,000 graves of martyrs who died on the battlefields of Xieng Khouang, Xayxombun, and Vientiane provinces to rest in peace in the Motherland at Anh Son, Do Luong, and Nghi Loc cemeteries in great emotion and gratitude. Every July 27, at the Vietnam-Laos cemetery in Anh Son district, Nghe An province, a grand festival of "Drinking water, remember its source" and "Lighting candles in gratitude" to heroic martyrs is held.

Currently, there are over 700 Lao students studying and researching in Nghe An. Every year, the Association coordinates with the Nghe An Union of Friendship Organizations and colleges and universities to organize Bunpimay Festival (April 15) and celebrate the National Day of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (December 2); 6 border districts annually visit the sister districts of Laos to visit relatives and give gifts for friendship exchanges.

The Association has compiled and published the Vietnam - Laos Newsletter; the book "Xamakhi Song" volume 1, volume 2; "Chronicle of Vietnam - Xieng Khouang friendship and cooperation events"; "Nghe An volunteer soldiers and experts with the Lao revolution" and the photo book "Beautiful Laos".

2017, the year of Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship with many rich activities. The Association attended the 40th anniversary of the Vietnam - Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Xieng Khouang province; with the Central Delegation of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association to commemorate General Chu Huy Man; attended the inauguration ceremony of the Stilt House donated by the Government of the Lao PDR to the Kim Lien Relic Site; launched a contest in the whole province "Learning about the history of the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos",...

Sharing the joy with the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Nghe An province, comrade Ta Minh Chau - Permanent Vice President of the Central Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association hopes that the Association will continue to promote the valuable tradition and experience of the past 50 years, do well in border work, economic relations with Lao localities, especially the three sister provinces: Xieng Khouang, Bolikhamxay and Huaphan.

The Standing Vice President of the Vietnam - Laos Central Friendship Association emphasized: Nghe An's strength is that it has many prestigious and high-quality universities and colleges located in the area. Therefore, Nghe An continues to receive assistance in training human resources and cadres for Laos, making an important contribution to fostering the special traditional friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

In recognition of the Association's contributions, the Government awarded the Excellent Emulation Flag to the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Nghe An province; the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations awarded a Certificate of Merit to the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Nghe An province and Mr. Tran Kim Don - Vice President and General Secretary of the Association; the Central Committee of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association awarded Certificates of Merit to 2 individuals; the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 2 individuals and 2 groups that have made outstanding contributions to fostering the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
