Mr. Ngo Hong He, Head of the Motor Vehicle Inspection Department - Vietnam Register, said that from January 1, 2018, the whole country had 24,439 cars that had expired their usage period, including 2,632 passenger cars and 21,807 cargo cars.

According to Circular No. 15/2014/TT-BCA of the Ministry of Public Security, vehicles that have expired their use period and are subject to revocation of their vehicle registration certificates and license plates, the vehicle owner only needs to bring the vehicle registration certificate and license plate to the registration management agency to submit them without having to bring the vehicle. If the vehicle owner does not voluntarily submit them, within 15 days from the date of notification, the registration management agency will coordinate with the commune-level police to revoke the vehicle registration and license plates.

If a car has expired but is still in circulation, the driver will be fined 4-6 million VND, have the car confiscated and have his/her driving license revoked for 1-3 months.

The Vietnam Register has published a list of vehicles that have expired nationwide, as well as vehicles that will expire from January 1, 2018, on its website.www.vr.org.vn.
