Prosecution and temporary detention of a Head of the Forest Protection Management Board

The Head of the Bac Bien Ho Forest Protection Management Board was prosecuted and temporarily detained for his involvement in causing serious damage to the state budget.

On December 22, Gia Lai Provincial Police prosecuted and temporarily detained Mr. Nguyen Duc, Head of the Bac Bien Ho Protective Forest Management Board, to investigate the act of "Intentionally violating state regulations on economic management, causing serious consequences".

An area of ​​forest land in the forest area of ​​the Bac Bien Ho protective forest management board was encroached.

Mr. Nguyen Duc was prosecuted and temporarily detained for his involvement in causing serious damage to the state budget. Also prosecuted for this crime was Mr. Dang Van Cuom, Chief Accountant of the Bac Bien Ho Forest Protection Management Board, but Mr. Cuom was released on bail.

Previously, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee directed the transfer of the violation records of the Bac Bien Ho Protective Forest Management Board to the Police Investigation Agency, after the Gia Lai Provincial Inspectorate concluded many violations there.

Specifically, the Bac Bien Ho Protective Forest Management Board lost thousands of hectares of forest land in the assigned forest area, from more than 9,100 hectares to nearly 6,700 hectares. During the inspection, the Gia Lai Provincial Inspectorate discovered that 15 officials, from the Head of the Bac Bien Ho Protective Forest Management Board, Mr. Nguyen Duc, to the unit's staff, encroached on more than 84,000 square meters of forest land to build coffee and pepper farms, build solid houses, and profit from forest land.

Along with that, the Bac Bien Ho Forest Protection Management Board also spent money against financial principles when it did not enter the fund with an amount of more than 3.6 billion VND. Of which, more than 1.2 billion VND was sold from the garden without being recorded in the books or entered into the budget; 2.4 billion VND alone showed signs of corruption when there were no supporting documents.

Regarding the appropriation of forest land and its transformation into private land, Gia Lai Provincial Police will prosecute Mr. Nguyen Duc on a second charge. Many officers and employees of the Bac Bien Ho Forest Protection Management Board will also be considered for responsibility related to this violation./.
