Peru asks two North Korean diplomats to leave the country

Two North Korean diplomats must leave Peru within 15 days.

"The Peruvian government has informed the North Korean embassy of its decision to declare First Secretary Pak Myong Chol and Third Secretary Ji Hyok as 'persona non grata', Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on December 22, according to AFP.

Peru said the diplomats had carried out activities inconsistent with their official duties.They said the decision was also related to North Korea's repeated violations of UN Security Council resolutions on nuclear non-proliferation.

In September, Peru expelled North Korean Ambassador Kim Hak-Chol in response to Pyongyang's efforts to build up its nuclear arsenal. It also halved the number of diplomats in its embassy to three in March.
