After more than 3 months of launching the contest, on the morning of December 24, at the Hall of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Clean Water and Environment Association in collaboration with the Environment and Life Magazine held the award ceremony for the contest "Climate Change and Life" 2017.This is an annual competition for all university and college students nationwide.

With the theme "Floods, droughts and our actions", female student Cung Thi Hong Nhung, from Yen Thanh district, submitted a written work titled "Each person - An action - An awareness" to participate. The work was honored to receive the First Prize for individuals.

Cung Thi Hong Nhung shared: "I am very happy and moved to win the prize. Actually, I participated in this contest because of my sister. My sister passed away due to the recent storm No. 10, through which, I feel more clearly than ever the loss that natural disasters bring to my family in particular and my homeland in general."

Hong Nhung's entry opens with these emotional lines: "This afternoon, the poor countryside of Central Vietnam is covered in white water, nothing remains but mournful cries, in the distance there are only bare roofs, withered and desolate treetops. Property is floating in the flood water. Pain, despair"!

"The narrow strip of land in the Central region has never been free from suffering, this "shoulder pole" land has always suffered the most pain and loss, just like its name. I feel that pain more clearly than ever. Perhaps, now if I had one wish, I would only wish to live like the old days, when we were in harmony with nature, listening to the birds chirping every day, breathing in the fresh smoke, watching the peaceful fields in the green of prosperity, listening to the mischievous laughter in the small happy house with my family, with my parents, with my siblings.

Those seemingly simple moments made me remember and crave more than ever in the extreme pain when the same natural disaster took the life of my little sister when she was carrying so many unfinished ambitions and youthful dreams"...

In her entry, as a student of Geography Education, Hong Nhung also gave many sharp insights, along with some solutions to overcome the current situation of climate change. The entry was highly appreciated by the organizing committee.

Hong Nhung said that when she submitted her entry, she did not expect much of a prize, but simply wrote it with all her feelings and emotions, hoping that through the article she could contribute a small voice to change public awareness about climate change.

"I find the contest very meaningful, not only does it help people see the consequences of climate change, but it also helps us raise awareness and responsibility for the environment," added Cung Thi Hong Nhung.
