Young man sentenced to life in prison for transporting nearly 1kg of drugs

While transporting 942,910 grams of drugs for hire, the young man was checked and arrested by the authorities.

On December 26, the Hanoi People's Court opened the first instance trial of defendant Pham Van Hai (born in 1988), residing in Hop Hung commune, Vu Ban district, Nam Dinh province, for the crime of Illegally transporting narcotics, as prescribed in Point e, Clause 4, Article 194, Penal Code.

According to the case file, at around 10:10 p.m. on March 16, 2017, in My Dinh 1 Ward (Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi), Ha Dong District Police caught Pham Van Hai red-handed illegally transporting drugs. At the scene, the authorities seized from Hai a small box containing a water pump, inside the pump were 2 plastic bags containing white crystals, concluded to be drugs, weighing 942.910 grams.

Pham Van Hai confessed to the investigation agency that in January 2017, he met a man named Nguyen Nhu Ngoc in Thai Nguyen city.

On the morning of March 15, 2017, Ngoc called Hai and told him to come to a motel in Bac Ninh. The next day, Hai took a bus to the above location to meet Ngoc and a woman named Bui Thi Thu Hang (who lives in Thai Nguyen).

After dinner, Ngoc and Hang asked Hai to transport a water pump containing crystal meth from a house on Tan My Street (My Dinh 1 Ward, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi) to a location on Tran Phu Street (Ha Dong District) for 2 million VND, and Hai agreed.

At around 8pm on the evening of March 16, 2017, Hai and Hang took a taxi back to Hanoi. On the way, Hang gave Hai a phone with the number of the person delivering the pump saved on it, and Hai's phone was given to Hang to keep.

Arriving at Long Bien bus station, the woman got off the bus, and Hai continued to the My Dinh area to receive the drugs. Through phone contact and with instructions from a woman on the other end of the line, Hai went deep into a small alley, to the front door of house number 26, where he saw a cardboard box with a water pump inside.

Hai carried the cardboard box onto the taxi, but when the car reached Tan My street, My Dinh 1 ward, Nam Tu Liem district, he was checked and arrested by the police.

Regarding those involved in the case, because the investigation documents did not have enough basis to conclude that these people committed the crime of illegally transporting drugs, the investigation agency decided to separate and withdraw related documents for further investigation.

Considering that the defendant's behavior is especially dangerous to society, only for immediate profit, he helped bad guys, indirectly spreading white death to humanity, so it is necessary to impose a very severe punishment to deter and educate criminals.

After deliberation, the first instance panel decided to sentence defendant Pham Van Hai to life in prison according to the exact crime charged./.
