Cong Phuong recovers in time to attend 2018 Asian Cup

After a night of monitoring, Cong Phuong's injury has improved. The Nghe An striker can recover in time for the 2018 AFC U23 Championship Finals.

Cong Phuong’s injury on the afternoon of December 27th made the U23 Vietnam coaching staff and fans quite worried. However, after a night of monitoring, the HAGL striker’s left ankle showed no signs of deterioration. He can return to light training today (December 28th).

In the past, Cong Phuong was a player with good physical condition and rarely suffered injuries. The last time he had to sit out was an ankle injury in round 22 of V.League 2017, in the match between Quang Nam Club and HAGL. However, Cong Phuong recovered quickly and returned to the starting lineup in round 23, helping HAGL win 3-2 against Hanoi FC at home.

Furthermore, the Nghe An striker broke his shoulder blade in the match against U23 UAE at the 2016 AFC U23 Championship Finals in Qatar.

Although the weather in Hanoi is rainy and cold, today (December 28), U23 Vietnam will practice 2 sessions at 10am and 4pm.

According to the plan, on January 1, 2018, U23 Vietnam will leave for China to prepare for the 2018 AFC U23 Championship, which will take place from January 9 to January 27, 2018. The team will have a friendly match against U23 Palestine (January 4) to prepare the squad before the tournament.

U23 Vietnam is in group D and will meet U23 Korea (January 11), U23 Australia (January 14) and U23 Syria (January 17).

Nguyen Cong Phuong is a Vietnamese professional football player currently playing as a striker for Hoang Anh Gia Lai club and the Vietnam national team. After a rigorous selection round, Cong Phuong is one of the young players enrolled in the HAGL-Arsenal JMG Football Academy, course 1. Cong Phuong was called up by coach Miura Toshiya to the Vietnam U23 national team to participate in the 28th SEA Games. At this tournament, Cong Phuong scored 3 goals and many assists.
