Sentenced to prison for driving in the wrong lane, causing 1 death

(Baonghean.vn) -Driving a car in the wrong lane and causing an accident that killed one person, Ha Van Cam (residing in Chau Nga commune, Quy Chau district) was sentenced to 12 months of suspended imprisonment.

On December 28, Quy Hop District People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Ha Van Cam (born in 1987, residing in Nga My village, Chau Nga commune, Quy Chau) for the crime of "Violating regulations on controlling road vehicles".

According to the indictment of the People's Procuracy of Quy Hop district, at about 1:00 p.m. on May 21, 2017, Ha Van Cam (with a driver's license as prescribed) drove car with license plate 37N-5724 from Nghia Dan district to Quy Chau.

When arriving at Dong Song hamlet, Dong Hop commune (Quy Hop), car with license plate 37N-5724 crossed the lane and crashed into motorbike with license plate 37B1-283.33 driven by Mr. Hoang Ngoc Thanh going in the opposite direction. As a result, Mr. Thanh died on the spot, the car and motorbike were damaged with total property damage of more than 75 million VND.

At the trial, defendant Cam confessed to all his crimes as stated in the indictment and apologized to the victim's family.

Based on the evidence and documents examined at the trial; based on the results of the debate at the trial on the basis of full and comprehensive consideration of the evidence, opinions of the prosecutor, the defendant and other participants in the proceedings, the Panel of Judges sentenced Ha Van Cam to 12 months in prison, suspended, with a probationary period of 24 months.

Regarding civil compensation liability, the victim's family and the defendant's representative have reached an agreement. The victim's family has filed a petition to reduce the defendant's sentence.
