Two young men were sentenced to prison for tricking and selling their girlfriends from the same hometown to China.

On the morning of December 28, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendants Luong Van Duong (born in 1995, residing in Huu Kiem commune, Ky Son district) and Pit Van May (born in 1989, residing in Na Loi commune, Ky Son district) prosecuted for the crime of "human trafficking".

According to the indictment, in late 2012, Luong Van Duong met Lu Thi Kim (currently living in China) in Dinh Son 1 village, Huu Kiem commune, Ky Son district. Kim told Duong to find someone to take her to China to sell her for marriage. Duong agreed and took Kim's phone number to contact her.

In June 2013, Duong went to Pha Khao village, Pha Danh commune, Ky Son district and met Pit Van May. Duong told May to find someone to take people to China, May agreed.

In July 2017, May went to Luong Thi Loi's house (born in 1995, residing in Keo Con village, Keng Du commune, Ky Son district) to visit. May invited Loi to go to Saigon to work in garment manufacturing, and Loi agreed.

May drove her motorbike to Muong Xen town, Ky Son district, and then called Duong to inform him that she had found the person. After that, May left her motorbike in town and took a bus to take Loi to Vinh city.

Arriving in Vinh, May told Duong to take Loi to China to sell for 60 million VND, she would give 40 million VND to Loi's parents, and the remaining 20 million would be split between the two of them. May told Duong that she had tricked Loi into working for a garment company in Saigon.

Duong took a bus to take Loi to Mong Cai city, Quang Ninh. While on the bus, Duong called Lu Thi Kim, Kim told Duong to contact a woman named Hong. When they arrived in Mong Cai, a woman named Hong picked them up and took Duong and Loi to China through a small border route.

In China, Kim gave Duong 30 million and promised that when she sold Loi, she would give Duong 50 million more, and told her to give Loi's parents 60 million, and Duong and May each 10 million. After that, Duong took a bus back to Vietnam.

A week later, Kim sold Loi to a Chinese man for 70,000 yuan (equivalent to 210 million VND). In July 2017, Luong Thi Loi returned to Vietnam and filed a complaint with the Ky Son district police.

The investigation revealed that the total amount of money Kim gave to Duong and May was 60 million VND, but Duong and May used all of this money for personal expenses. Duong and May's family voluntarily compensated the victim, Ms. Luong Thi Loi, with a total of 34 million VND. The victim did not request any further compensation.

At court, Luong Van Duong and Pit Van May admitted all their crimes. The panel sentenced Luong Van Duong to 4 years and 6 months in prison and Pit Van May to 5 years in prison. As for the defendant Pit Van May, he was previously sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison by the People's Court of Ky Son district for "robbery".

Regarding the two women named Kim and Hong involved in the case, further investigation will be conducted and they will be brought to trial when there is sufficient evidence.
